Sinn list this as DIN 8309 compliant, which means a minimum of 4800 a/M or about 60 Gauss. While the U50 shares a lot of specs with the 856 UTC (reviewed in a different video), which is indeed guaranteed to 80K a/M or about 1005 Gauss, the U50s do not seem to be explicitly listed with this rating. I will reach out to Sinn and see if/how they respond, but you may be right and this may prove to be incorrect. Thank you for bringing this up

Mine is a 5513 from 1967, on its original riveted, hollow-link bracelet. No way I would exchange it for a later version.

This is the model my wife gave me as an anniversary present and as a celebration of retirement, five years ago. I had admired the Submariner for 40 years and she felt it was time. It will pass to my son someday who has already earned it as a U.S.Navy Rescue Swimmer. It is robust, comfortable, elegant, and casual all at the same time. It truly is the only watch you will ever need.

A lot of the same tech with double the pressure resistance. IMO it is less (or not at all?) practical for daily wear at 44mm and close to 15mm thickness, but otherwise it is also great (I really like the blue dial version).

There is a subtle difference between a Sub owner and a Speedmaster owner in that you will have a greater chance of finding a Lambo in a Sub owners garage (you will also find him wearing his clothing labels/logos on the outside of his garments) whereas the Speedmaster owner would more than likely have a Ferrari in his garage and would wear Purple label Polo sans logo (or you know how you can tell when a rich guy is wearing expensive clothing?, unless you own the items yourself, you can't).

114060 with maxi case all the way... The slightly slimmer bracelet is so comfortable and the case has more wrist presence even though it is 40mm..Most people would not even know the difference, let alone give a flying pigs grunt... But for me the 114060 is better if not way better....

The 124060 has better proportions and a better movement, the clasp is perfect if you have a 7 plus inch wrist, I would get the 14060 if I had smaller than 7 inch wrists

I wouldn't recommend either for those with under 7" wrists. These watches wear more like a 42mm size.

Well first of all new movement has 70hrs reserve, it looks and feels smaller, despite 41mm size. AR coating on inner side of safir cristal. Hour hand is fetter and longer, second hand also. Alltogether better and more composed watch.

@@AndrewJohn4Athe proportions of the 114060 are way off. The fat lugs and skinny bracelet (in addition to looking really odd) not only make the watch look unbalanced, it also wears that way. It’s top heavy because the bracelet is too thin in relation to the head of the watch. The 124060 corrects these proportions, and as a result the watch wears much more balanced on wrist. So the watch looks better and wears way better. Also, you’re getting a 70hr power reserve with the new movement and AR coating on the underside of the crystal. Both are big upgrades. The minute hand is longer on the 124060 and looks the way it should. The short hand always bugged me on the 114060. The new sub is approximately 1/2 millimeter larger than the outgoing model, so don’t worry about it wearing larger. If anything, it wears slightly smaller because of the improved proportions.

I do prefer watches at 39 or 40 mm so I probably won’t pick it up, however it is a beautiful case, love the shape

Nice review. I had this exact watch for a couple of years but in the end flipped it in favour of the EZM13. I remember there were a couple of things that bugged me though. I thought the yellow UTC numbers ran too close to the main numbers, especially at the big 9. But the killer for me was the crown - nice and large but it has a razor sharp edge and if I wore the watch everyday I developed a hard patch of skin where the crown rubbed the back of my hand. Maybe that is why I swapped it for the leftie EZM13 - crown on the other side. Nice knife - can I ask what it is?

Thank you! Funny you should say that, because I am normally weary of protruding crowns for that same reason. This one has somehow not caused me any trouble, but it may come down to how tight/where one wears it. Congrats on the EZM13, I love the Mission Timers, that is a great watch you picked. Unless you actually need a second time zone, the submariner is the better watch. The glidelock clasp alone is a huge upgrade.

Great question. Legibility is overall good with zero issues in good light. Where you may run into issues is in very low light conditions (at dusk for example). This is where this combination may wash out, but because the hands are not flat, all it takes is to tilt your wrist so the edges of the hands catch light differently from the dial. Surprisingly, I've seen shiny dark blue dial/polished hands combinations causing more problems in low light than the mint green.
