As a relatively new developer with a couple of years of technical training what should I focus on ? I personally enjoy the more backend aspect of software engineering.

Funny cause for internship role I was asked to use MediatR and CQRS also with clean architecture pattern xd. Mind you unpaid internship

My first job was on a startup that used CQRS and Mediatr so idk if that's good or not... 🤣🤣

How do you usually switch between windows and mac, installing a windows system or virtual machine using mac?
@edandersen22 сағат бұрын
I use a Mac as my host because Macbook Pros are the only laptops that don't suck. I use Windows on ARM in either a Parallels VM running on the Mac (for very light stuff, but the occasional game does work), I remote desktop into a real Windows desktop machine or use Azure Dev Box. The Remote Desktop client for Mac is really good.

I am a unity c# developer and made a fun prototype CRM in Unity with scriptable objects. Now I want to port it to a more suitable environment for small businesses. what do you suggest I use/learn. I am also an experience MS-SQL DBA and developer. it .net maui an option or ?
@edandersen23 сағат бұрын
A CRM system in Unity sounds pretty wild! I'd just build a .NET web app. MVC would be my preference but Razor Pages works if you don't want to learn controllers etc.

The good news is the big Enterprise companies and the old software companies tend to be much more stable than the latest and greatest start up. So pick your poison carefully.

the best and fastest learning path for C# beginners is: C# => Blazor => Minimal Api No need to learn JS and MVC or Razor Pages. All is done with C# only If anyone thinks they know better than Steven Sandersson, think again
@edandersenКүн бұрын
if you put Blazor on your CV you are unemployable anywhere apart from 100% Microsoft shops. I implore people to get experience with anything else first if they want to keep their options open

It's unclear (to me) how I would use .net aspire, since our apps aren't cloud native, and don't need to be. I like your summary of history and agree in general with the benefit of an "opinionated framework", and the dashboard is nifty. But if I need to use a message queue for example, is every aspire app going to spin up its own private one? How do we use aspire in local development but use shared resources for these functions when deployed? What exactly is the non cloud use case?

Good questions. Hopefully one of my more knowledgable viewers can answer.

You are also beating around the bush. They say C# is cross platform programming language, and i cannot even install visual studio in the Linux for learning purpose., I know it works complete fine in Visual studio code but i don't find resource to learn c# in visual studio code because people mostly prefer to do it in the visual studio. And too many people may find this normal but this is the policy of microsoft. They actually hate other platform. And people might suggest me to learn it in windows and my answer is windows sucks. You pay for the shit and can't even keep and remove stuff with your choice, You donot have control over your own pc. Microsoft is turning into shittytough these days.

Hey i have a question, why do you think startups prefer using something like nest or golang instant of dotnet? i mean it make no sens for me it look so much more robust (i work in a startup and we mainly use Go btw, i never used dotnet pro but i'm learning on my free time)
@edandersen2 күн бұрын

New subscriber here! I am at my first job for 10 months now and I've been working with Angular all these months, and recently I started making .Net API projects because I wanna transition into a .Net backend role or a fullstack role including .Net and Angular or React, I don't mind both Do you think as someone with 10 months of Angular experience, I can get a fullstack or backend role with .Net ? By the way, I am 23 years old. I don't know if that changes things for transitioning to other roles with other languages as I'm young and not very experienced with any language or framework!
@edandersen7 күн бұрын
Absolutely. Lock in while you are young. Key to full stack is can you make even a single vertical feature slice (UI to DB) top to bottom. most can't. Thanks for subscribing!

It seems like Microsoft and its .NET tech is losing support from devs and the like more and more as each new version is released. I live in Vancouver, Canada and there is almost zero demand for .NET devs. The occassional job that does come up is enterprise-level. There doesnt seem to be any small or med companies interested in building software using MS tech.

I've created quite a few of webpages using Wordpress (and some other integrated solutions) without any coding knowledge. Had I dwelled into that, I'd loose years of time and still the gained knowledge would be insufficient to match the Wordpress efficiency: choose hosting, theme, set up the content, add few plugins, done. In addition, should I ever need actual coding, AI will help me in that regard. Now I obviously talked about frontend, for backend one needs to know how stuff actually works so yeah go invest time into SQL and C# for that.

The best years of C# and .NET were the WinForms years, even today that's the one desktop framework most used across multiple industries. And that's the kind of spirit we need to bring more innovation to the language and .NET technology going forward.

5:15 For how confusing the whole dotnet rebranding is, you managed to still make it again confusing. On the left side you make a comment on how .NET core was rebranded to .NET 5. On the right side you make a comment (if I understand correctly) saying that .NET 4.8.1 and .NET 5+ are different FROM EACHOTHER. But since the whole slide is comparing the left side to the right side, I at first assumed it was a description of .NET 4.8.1 and .NET 5+ TOGETHER being different from .NET core.
