Any other right handed forwards find this video helpful? Always trying to figure out the optimal side and position. Practice the right passes. This was cool.

2nd clip analysis is incomplete. This was mostly just a really poorly executed forecheck by the White team players. All 3 white forecheckers were bunched on entry covering each others shadows. #57 white forechecker peeled off (to cover the pass to Celebrini's partner D) still skating forward and not pivoted to backwards skating (allowing him to transition toward Celebrini in the middle, or towards Celebrini's D partner), which creates the space that Celebrini skates into in the middle of the ice. The third forechecker is completely lost on this play and is swivling around trying to find ANY Teal player to cover. Had the third forechecker not vacate the center of the ice (and skate back as Right D), there would have been minimal skating room down the center of the ice. While this worked in this sequence, turning / cutting toward the center of the ice right in front of your own goalie is a recipe for turnovers in the Regular season.

Not saying he’s gonna be as good, but his skating style , edge work, lateral movement and puck handling does resemble McDavid a bit. You can see those moments in this video

The only part wrong was that goalie was not frozen at end. Goalie stayed square to celebrini shoulders and made save with ease due to it

@1:26, he should pull up just enough to get a lane to pass to 10 (Think it's Kostin?) and then go to the net. Technically not a 'bad play' to shoot, cuz it's never a bad play to get a good shot on goal, but there was a better play available. Someone with more hockey IQ in 10's position might have pushed a little lower to create more of an angle and open up more net, though.

From a defense perspective... should that defender have pivoted from backward to forward skating for forecheck purposes at that moment though.. I think I wouldn't do it unless I am completely outskated which doesn't seem to be the case (I watched it a few times and it seems to me he could have kept celebrini on his front right side at stick distance without pivoting)
@benjaminallen64692 ай бұрын
Positions like that are awkward for a defender. There is a point where you kinda have to chase or cut bait or else you'll just turn into a pylon backing into your goalie. It's risky because your options are to either commit and risk the breakaway/open shot or continue guarding but remain too passive and back up into your goalie/create a screen. It is an issue for even AAA defensemen. My best advice is to put him as close to the outside as possible and commit when you have to, taking the inside angle which leaves them only with the outside at best. Then it's on your goalie to block a bad-angled shot or poke check if they circle around to the middle. Been playing D for 30 years and I struggle with it too as well

As a defender, you should be able to accelerate as fast or faster than someone going forward. A defender should not have to turn to defend hence why he gets burnt. Now d men are trained to be defensive forwards so ya see it more and more especially with them pinching

kostin needed to keep skating to create space for a pass or make the defender pick Macklin or Kostin to defend. Kostin didn't skate and the def was spaced to def both macklin and kostin. Mack thought he catch the goalie sliding to the left and shot it right.

He had a great setup play. If you rewatch it you can see from his side he could draw the goalie to the near post, and then pass to the other forward for a back door pass behind the defender.
@greg-wl2rd2 ай бұрын
Saw that too. Definitely shoulda sent a pass to him as opposed to a fairly weak shot that is easily saved
@Mcjesus972792 ай бұрын
@@math3342 It shouldn't...macklin's got tunnel vision there. Drew the defender, and goalie is frozen. A little pass to 10 and that's a wide open net for an easy goal
