@@classicalmusicanalysis I want to know what goes into a jazz fan's ear when they listen to this that makes them go "ahh yes, this is just like Mozart" lol. Sounds pretty jazzy to me.
@classicalmusicanalysis
@classicalmusicanalysis 24 күн бұрын
@@modernclassicalmusic8942 this piece is based upon a theme from romantic composer Enric Granados -hence the name for this tune, 'Granadas'-, called 'Quejas, o la maja y el ruiseñor' ("The Maiden and the Nightingale"). The harmonies and chords used are quite classical in that sense, no Mozart tho lol. No crazy jazzy chords with odd tonal contexts, that's what I meant :)

@@classicalmusicanalysis That makes sense. Sort of like how the classical composers would take something like a Hungarian folk theme and make it sound classical, even if the inspiration wasn't.

Someone tell me if I'm wrong but at 13:28 the viola has a written B2 in its part..... is that a misprint or something?

On that exact page there's an asterisk * with a note that says 'C-Saite nach h herunterstimmen' which translates to 'The C string should be tuned down to B', down a half step

I really feel like I'm sailing out in a dazzling, sunny ocean. It feels more present than the piano version and yet the piano version is more elegant and complete.

Pretty wild to think that Ravel considered this orchestration a failure. I’d venture to say it sounds more like the sea than La Mer.

a sobering way to listen is to imagine franz-joseph hearing it for the first time -- what he must have felt. it's a very dangerous move on strauss' part to write an 'emporer's waltz', so much could go wrong, but he's the master of the appropriate and each section of its own melody exists for a certain audience, and the whole being a glorification and celebration of the emperor. strauss is truly a musical genius.
