I normally break my fasts with kimchi. There is some sugar in it. My first big meal is a salad with extra veggies, avocado, and some type of fish. I try to eat something from the greens family to temper my blood sugar increase.

Can we define high blood sugar? I looked online and saw regular fasting blood glucose between 70 and 99 mg/do.. according to my test strips i have not been lower than 124 in years with a high of 160, Type 2 btw. How do I know when I should get medications v.s. trying to lower this myself? I would ask my doc but after COVID I don't trust docs here in wa state. I lost 50 lbs and people say I look like I need a cheeseburger 165bls 5"11..super low carbs. Zero sugar. Same blood glucose.
@DwainWoodeMD29 күн бұрын
Hi @johnsmith-dm2tq, congratulations on your significant weight loss-a major achievement! 🎉 Regarding your blood sugar levels, fasting glucose levels between 70 and 99 mg/dL are normal. Levels consistently above 100 mg/dL (fasting) might suggest diabetes or prediabetes. Since your readings have been consistently above 124 mg/dL, discussing this with a healthcare professional, despite your reservations, is essential. I understand your hesitation post-COVID, but a trusted healthcare provider is crucial in managing type 2 diabetes effectively. You might explore telemedicine options or seek a second opinion if you are uncomfortable with your current care. In terms of medication vs. self-management, medications can be very effective, especially if lifestyle changes alone aren't bringing your glucose levels within target ranges. However, continuing your efforts with diet and possibly introducing other lifestyle changes like increased physical activity can also have significant impacts. It's all about finding the right balance that works for your body. Keep up your excellent work on the diet front, and perhaps consult a diabetes educator or an endocrinologist who can tailor advice to your specific situation. Stay empowered and proactive about your health!

If I'm feeling good after I reach my goal, say it's 5 days, for example, should I continue for a longer period?
@DwainWoodeMD29 күн бұрын
Hey @karlgregoire202, that’s fantastic to hear you're feeling good after reaching your goal! 🌟 It's great to listen to your body, especially when giving you positive feedback. If you’re considering extending your goal, consider your overall health and the sustainability of your current routine. It’s often beneficial to set incremental goals that gradually increase in challenge. However, ensure you’re not pushing yourself too hard or too fast. Maybe check in with a healthcare professional for personalized advice that aligns with your health needs. Keep up the great work, and let me know what you decide!

Hello sir! I'm 4 days into a 5 day fast! It's amazing. I feel great. It's my first time doing it. I believe the reason I'm enjoying success is because for two months prior, I eliminated all simple carbs from my diet. I lost about 20 pounds just doing that. Since I started my fast, I'm down another 7 pounds. I'm very happy at my progress. I'm interested in staying in ketosis after I break my fast and continue with an intermittent fasting schedule of 6 hr eating /18 hour fasting windows.
@DwainWoodeMD29 күн бұрын
Hello, @karlgregoire202! Congratulations on your incredible progress with the fasting and the weight loss-what an inspiring journey! 🌟 It sounds like you’ve prepared your body well by cutting out simple carbs, which can help smooth the transition into fasting. Staying in ketosis post-fast with an intermittent fasting schedule sounds like a great plan. Make sure to reintroduce foods slowly and focus on high-quality, nutrient-dense foods during your eating windows to maintain energy levels and nutrient intake. Keep up the great work, and I'm excited to see how you'll continue to thrive with your new eating pattern!

A month ago I found out my A1C is 11.5 , my glucose is 320 😭😭 that very same day I started a keto very low carb , no sugar diet , eating mostly bacon & eggs for breakfast ,and beef with a green vegetable for super . no breads , no starchy foods , My next test is in August . my question is , should I be taking a daily B complex vitamin ? Thank you , I hope you answer my question
@DwainWoodeMD29 күн бұрын
Hello @vickymyprayergarden6846, I want to commend you for taking immediate action with your diet after receiving your A1C and glucose results; that’s a significant and brave step. 🌟 Regarding your question about a daily B complex vitamin, B vitamins are crucial for energy production and overall health, especially when on a restrictive diet like keto. Make sure you are taking a high-quality multivitamin. However, the need for supplementation can vary based on individual health conditions and dietary intake. Discussing this with your healthcare provider, who can offer guidance based on your specific health needs and nutritional status, would be beneficial. They can help ensure you get the proper nutrients without interfering with your progress. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to hearing about your progress in August!

Just listened to the hole podcast, what a legend! Hello, Im Andrey 👋🏼 Im new to your channel but ill deffinately keep close from now on!!! Im currently 27th hour in to my fast, reaching the big 48 this time around (first time in my life Im doing such long fast) Last full moon I only did 38 hours… powerful stuff!! Key thing you said throughout this hour for me personally, was that Insulin can NOT co-EXIST with Ketones, will be doing more research on that myself but I think you just helped me be kind to my stomach when I BREAK the fast! Stay with the ketosis and lower the karbs is what Im thinking for myself… Writing to you as I just dropped off a passenger doing Uber while listening to your podcast, just sharing my experience, thank you for your wisdom! God bless 🙏❤️🙏

How do I lower my TPO
@DwainWoodeMD29 күн бұрын
Hi @TheWinterState, that’s a great question! TPO (thyroid peroxidase) antibodies are associated with thyroid conditions like Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Lowering these antibodies typically involves a combination of lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, and potentially medication, depending on your specific situation. Reducing inflammation through a balanced diet, incorporating selenium-rich foods like Brazil nuts, and possibly gluten-free options can be helpful. However, discussing this with your healthcare provider to get a tailored approach that suits your health needs is crucial. If you have more questions or need support, I’m here to help!

Hi @Srindal4657, that's an interesting approach to maintaining hydration, especially during weight loss! Salt can help with water retention, which is essential when losing water weight. Great conversation. I am so happy that vegan diet worked for Dr Lathon. Veganism didn't work for me. I went vegan for nearly two years, an attempt to heal my thyroid, but unfortunately my thyroid blow up which was very surprising and disappointing. Just shows that diet is individual. Did Dr Lathon mention what type of thyroid cancer she had?

Thanks for joining the conversation, @twinny12009! As you said, it's essential to acknowledge that diet is very individual. I'm sorry to hear that the vegan diet didn't work out for your thyroid issues. Thanks for sharing your experience-it adds a valuable perspective to our understanding of health and diet!

#Q I was diagnosed with T2D at my PCP in May and prescribed Metformin ER 1000mg/day. A1C was 10.8. Not expecting results to change but should or would it be a bad idea to switch to and endocrinologist since that’s there specialty. My expectation is focused care. Not saying my PCP would not be able to. Just want to build a strong team for this journey.
@DwainWoodeMD29 күн бұрын
Hi @TheLightworkz, it's great that you're proactively considering assembling the best care team for your Type 2 diabetes management. Considering adding an endocrinologist to your team is not a bad idea, especially given their specialized knowledge in managing and treating conditions like diabetes. Endocrinologists can provide focused care and offer additional insights or treatment options aligning with your health goals. It’s wonderful that you have a supportive relationship with your PCP, and enhancing your team with specialized care can complement what your PCP already offers. Ultimately, feeling confident and supported by your healthcare team is crucial on your journey. Wishing you the best as you build your team and manage your health!

@DwainWoodeMD2 ай бұрын
@rachellee5818, I'm so glad you found the reminder helpful! Attending family gatherings can be challenging when you're mindful of your eating habits, especially when fasting. Remember to plan ahead-maybe have a small, nutritious meal if your eating window allows it before attending the gathering to help stave off temptations. And it's perfectly okay to decline offers that don't fit your fasting schedule politely. Most importantly, focus on enjoying the time with your family. I am glad that you are aware of your triggers. That is a huge step toward managing them effectively. You definitely got this. Have fun at your gathering!
