Many fans thought Eggman is weak but he actually has some strengh in him (Not to mention that he can run just as fast as Sonic.). It's just that he's aware that Sonic can easily beat him in hand-in-hand combat, which is why he prefers to use robots, and giant mechs, to fight & defeat Sonic.
