Oh God the white singer's voice is simply catterwaul starting at 30:13! I don't care if it's faculty ...if they were really smart they would find someone else, or transpose the piece down a whole step to fit the singer's range! God-awful.....

As I know, the tone of gamelan is fixed, can't be changed according the singer's range. Otherwise, the singer should be able to sing in the range of gamelan tone. The range from one note to another isn't the same, different from piano. So, if you try to use one note lower, the repertoire will feel so different. Actually, at that part the problem is not the tone but the tempo. She's able to reach the high note although not too stable. Being the sinden (main vocal) is one of the hardest thing in playing gamelan, along with lirihan instruments

The gamelan player and the dancer are amazing but the singer has spellbinding voice that I can feel the soul of the whole performance. It feels that gamelan itself has spiritual vibration through this sacral ambient performance. Hail UM !! Indonesia salute you.
