Client wanted to save some money and do it himself

$60/sf is labor and materials? This sounds very low especially with a new shower.
@contractorhomes2 күн бұрын
This is labor and construction materials like lumber and drywall. We have very fair prices that are also below the average while doing excellent quality work. We are a smaller business, and we are the ones doing the work, so we are able to charge lower prices to our clients than bigger businesses who work with subcontractors.
@cmvcontracting2 күн бұрын
@contractorhomes thanks for the reply. We're usually closer to 100/sf without a new bathroom for something like this.

I'm sorry but how did you frame the horizontal pipe against the wall? I saw the finish product vs how its framed but the framing doesn't make sense. 24:51 to 25:03. What is the drywall attached to? I'm in a similar predicament.

Wrong use mesh tape
@feeblewrk578822 күн бұрын
The point of mesh tape is so it embeds inside the thinset, that paper tape is going to just be on top of the compound because you around top coating it. And if you do, it’s going to take a lot more compound to flatten out your joints.

Don’t u use thinset and mesh tape for durarock. I could b wrong
@contractorhomes23 күн бұрын
The way that it is done in the video is the proper way to do it
@bryanbaldassarri324823 күн бұрын
@@contractorhomes idk seems off, using Sheetrock compound and paper tape in an application that clearly looks like a shower, durarock is concrete, thinset is made to stick tile to the wall so we use it to tape in the durarock and make it one continuous sheet then redgaurd (aka water proof) that tape is going to get wet and when you go to apply tile and thinset so why not just use the right stuff to begin with, at least that’s how it’s done in ny

@davispat14886 күн бұрын
@ absolutely 100 percent need vapor barrier there even if it’s waterproofed on the outside concrete can contain moisture from in changing temperatures the last thing you wanna do was all that work to find mold behind the walls
@kyleanderson613424 күн бұрын
Very interesting! I’ve never seen that done on cement board before and I’m really curious to understand your method. What are the benefits to taping and mudding cement board joints before water proofing? Is that regular drywall mud or is it a special kind? That banjo looks like a slick tool to use.
@contractorhomes24 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say there's a benefit of doing it this way. This is just the way I have been doing it ever since I started, and everyone has their own ways of doing it. Now, with all these new tools, gadgets, and methods, some things may be easier, but some things like this can never go wrong, and it has never failed me. This is regular drywall mud. After taping and mudding, we do waterproofing.

Can you take down a part of an outer wall on a singlewide to make an open concept kitchen and living room?
@contractorhomes25 күн бұрын
Well, an outer wall is what's holding the roof, so removing even part of that wall wouldn't be a good idea unless you are doing something like we did.

Great video very well done and it is informative. I have a 23 Frontier, man love the truck, but the goofy acting transmission...wonder if it is the same problem??
@contractorhomes29 күн бұрын
It could be the same problem. These nissan transmissions are horrible, and the frontiers were also subject to the issues. I would go to the dealer since you still have warranty and have them check it out. Although the dealer may not tell you the truth and may say that it is your fault when it's really not 😐.

@contractorhomes Is it worth spending the extra money for composite Decking?
@contractorhomesАй бұрын
Well, it is definitely more expensive, but it is much more durable than wood, so you don't need to replace any boards after 5-10 years like with wood. Also, composite decking is cleaner and nicer, and you don't need to re-paint/stain every couple of years. However, one con of composite decking is that whatever color you choose is what you have to stick with forever.

Great video. Question: Why did you install 2x4's on the rood joists? Could you have drywalled directly to the josts?
@contractorhomesАй бұрын
Well, there were a lot of things sticking out like electrical, plumbing, etc. So, by installing those 2x4s, it made the ceiling flat so we can install the drywall. Without those 2x4s, the ceiling would have electrical and plumbing sticking out, and we wouldn't be able to install the drywall

I hate islands in the middle of galley kitchens you are constantly running around that damn island trying to get everything you need to cook. the pantry is always on the other side of the sink or stove and if you forget something there you go another trip around the island.
