I solved my battery problem by using a boot converter board from ebay (cheap!), some 3d printed battery adapters (one for the positive side, one for the negative) and the same lipo's i use for my bots.

why don't you let the first glue dry completely and then do the next one? is there any reason?
@andpet55
@andpet55 7 жыл бұрын
Keeping the paper pliable is important. You could actually put a layer on the foam and let it dry first, but then it draws the moisture from the glue as you put on the paper making it hard to work. I have actually tried this.

Hey there, What do you do when the light doesn't switch off after you release the bind button and turn off the transmitter?
@andpet55
@andpet55 7 жыл бұрын
That one is new to me. I would disconnect the entire receiver and then plug everything in again. It sounds to me as though you have a wire connected wrong and getting feedback in the system. The light is just an LED and therefore if it were hooked up backwards would not light at all.

@andpet55

Nope. Sorry. The only way to reverse the throws on this model is by interfacing with the software. There are several other brands of cables that have the same configurations, or you can purchase one online. Good luck with it, though.

First off I want to say very informative video and well done...ty for your video ! I just have a few questions for you andpets55 (1). Can I use the "G" string, (second string from the bottom), off of a guitar, it is nichrome as well I believe...? (2). How many watts is your computer power supply or does it matter ? (3). Does it matter how long and what gage the power supply leads are, (the ones with the alligator clips)...? and (4). What amperage works best..?

I am not sure if the guitar string will work or not. It should. Try it and let us know. The amperage is not that high for the power supplies, but if you have watched my other video on alternate power supplies I indicate not to use too low a wattage. Don't be misled by the total wattage on the side of a desktop power supply (350 watt as an example) A smaller laptop supply will be rated at 1 to two amps and will do the same thing. Best thing to do is just try it. If the wire does not get hot enough, you need more watts. The power supply leads need to be at minimum of 16 gauge braided wire. 14 would be better. Thanks for the question

Would it be possible making the joint at the ailerons with taping the foam core from above where the ailerons will be, then covering it, cutting only on the bottom side through the foam and not the tape to make a more robust wing and spare one step?

can i just connect the alligator clips to a blade?
@andpet55
@andpet55 8 жыл бұрын
No. The reason this works is due to the high resistance of the wire, creating heat. You need the proper size wire and correct amperage. Too much and you melt, not enough and it won't cut.

Thank you for the upload. You have done what the majority the majority have failed to do. I have spent over 4 hours trying to get this answer. I code, I built 2 cars, one motorcycle, I maintain networks with over 4 thousand users I build models in CAD. I built and fly an ultralight. Im not saying it to brag.I mention it to help with the following comparison. like anything else, an individual can find a network of people that are interested in the same study or activity. The people who are interested in the electrical side of this craft aren't even on the scale when it comes to low self esteem ,they are arrogant and the most useless group I have ever encountered. I've read dozens of posts with people asking simple questions that never get answered. instead of an answers you get pages worth of replies from people trying to one up each other as if its an accomplishment. Then there is all the, how to build a hotwire videos that are equally useless because they dont cover the power supply. Its not just me ,take a look at forums and youtube and you will see negative comments everywhere about the same thing. Its a wire and power supply,not magic or Quantum Mechanics .Thanks again

How do you scale your airfoil designs to cut them out? Do you use a program or just hand draw them?
@andpet55
@andpet55 8 жыл бұрын
I usually print them in Microsoft office as an imported image and scale up the print. You can stretch the image as large as the document will permit (print it in landscape up to a 14 inch print). I have also been known to take a .jpg file from the internet and scale it up when I send it to the printer. I do have the advantage of having a 36 inch plotter and if the file is too large (as with my 14 foot Piper) i just sent it to my plotter and oversize it by a percentage. Once I did download an image and print it as large as I could on my printer and then take it to my office copy machine to enlarge as large as I could get it on legal paper sized material. Thanks for watching.

So technically, you could just add 4mm bullet plugs to the negative and positive from the power supply? And plug directly into them.. the only reason i ask is, it looked like you a transformer and stuff on the table but it seems like you arnt using them as you mentioned...
@andpet55
@andpet55 8 жыл бұрын
You are correct in that I have another system on the table. This is one that I just could not get to work properly. I am using it for the connections and the rest is just there because I was too lazy to move it. Thank you for you great observation. Putting the 4mm plugs directly on the power supply would be a much better way to do it.

Hi Andpet55, your videos are brilliant, thank you so much. I have built a simple cutting bow, and made some airfoil templates (cardboard), cut some wings, sanded them as you suggested (I am still learning to make good cuts), then covered the foam cores with packaging ("brown") paper (I can get different colors), using diluted white glue as you suggested, and I finished the wings with clear (or colored) packing tape, and ther result is BRILLIANT. The wing is strong and light (same weight as a built up balsa wing of the same size), and flexible. I have flown my new model, and I am very grateful for all your videos. I am using NiChrome wire (26 ga = 0.4 mm from EBAY), cutting wing halves (white foam or the denser colored foam) of approx. 2 feet (about 60 cm), with a 3S 2200 MAh LiPo (and a low voltage beeper from EBAY) and a servo tester (EBAY), regulating a BRUSHED ESC (Banggood). To further strengthen the wings, I have cut some groves into the cores, with a knife, and glued in thin dowels, salvaged from a bamboo window blind; the dowels weigh about 2 grams each (60 cm length), and they add tremendous strength. Since there were some questions about the NiCrome wire, may I post some links: hotwirefoamcutterinfo . com jacobs-online . biz

I used the Turnigy 450 with a 25 amp esc, but I am finding that the Suppo motors from Altitude hobbies are more powerful and just a better motor. I won't buy from HobbyKing anymore due to problems with my last two orders. They sent the wrong materials and would not reimburse me nor send the correct equipment, cost me $120. Their chat line was useless and no way to contact a real agent. There are far too many honest suppliers out there to continue with them.

Hey Folks! Just finished paper coating some 6ft. long wings using the "andpet55" technique and it worked out well. But, I added the step of lightly squeegee the wet paper after application with a straight edge plastic squeegee to push out any bubbles of glue or air trapped under it towards a seam lap. Then a light wet brush to smooth out the marks from the squeegee and spread out the extra glue. Almost as if doing a fiberglass lay up, without the smell!
