im upset at the fact that the beat drops at the chorus isn't in the final version of Night Mime

lol this is very much a stem edit combining an alternate mix of the 2016 pitch demo and the live performances of night mime from pre-dollhouse tour (2013 ep tour), that's why the chorus quality doesn't match.

Every time I remember about this song and return believe me I WILL be obsessed with it for that moment. It's so beautiful, very unfortunate it was never released.

my interpretation of the song! (lv = love interest, aka who melanie is talking ab) i think this song can be interpreted two ways: literally and metaphorically. literally, melanie has insomnia and they wish they could talk to lv(or friend???) about their insomnia, OR they find talking to lv comforting and wish they could talk to them while they're up late and distressed bc of their insomnia. i know a lot of people think this is what the song is about but i don't really think it is bc of how hard it was for me to find the words to explain that LOLL as for the metaphorical interpretation, night and morning are used to represent the times where lv talks/doesn't talk to them. during 'nighttime', melanie feels like they're always waiting for that person to text them back. they want to text them but they're afraid lv will find them annoying/they don't know what to say (ex: I'm tongue tied in the night time, I say no words like a midnight mime). so, instead of texting them, melanie waits for lv to say something first. when lv talks to them, that's when the sun rises (I'll just wait here for the sunrise so you can crawl back into my life). i feel like this makes more sense than insomnia. it's about a one sided relationship where melanie cares about lv more than lv cares about them, and melanie is too insecure to initiate the conversation because they don't want to come off as a burden or scare off lv (or something like that). because they're too afraid to say anything, they're like a mime. i hope this made sense bc im tired as hell also, 10 signs of a one sided relationship which i feel like confirms the metaphorical theory (emphasis on 4, 6, 8, and 10): 1.
