I used to be a wine drinker but some wines have a higher sugar content than beer. I would always get headaches. I have to drink so much water. I don’t really like mix drinks for that reason. I have a few that I love. But when I moved to Oregon and started going to this pub after work I got hooked on beer. The group I was in, would bring me samples of different beers that were made of different grains, flavors and hops. I was hooked. I still prefer beer over wine especially with food.

How do you get the lid to pressurize at 2 psi? The lid takes at least 10 psi to form a seal, and then the when I move the gas line to the carbonation stone connection on the lid and drop the pressure to 2 psi the beer backs up into the gas line. This is with a new lid gasket/O ring, too. When I release the pressure to get the beer back out of the line my lid starts leaking again. I get the logic of what you’re doing here, I just have no idea how you’re doing it with old kegs (like mine).

Dude, why would anyone get a keg for anything less than 100 beers? Carrying 3 30 pack miller lites is so much more convenient. I'm curious whether it will save money though.

Is stainless steel spigot safe for brewing wine/beer/cider/etc? How do I know my plastic container is food grade? As for fixing a bung to fermenter lid? Do I need a grommet for my bung?
@BrewChatterTV
@BrewChatterTV 2 жыл бұрын
An SS Spigot is definitely safe for your fermentations. Most buckets these days are food grade, especially if you get them at a homebrew shop. If not, they should have a sticker somewhere on there that says they are food grade. Usually you would use either a bung or a grommet. They perform the same function, but the grommet with stay with the fermenter lid and the bung will stay with the airlock when you store it.

I don't really enjoy beer, but was sipping on a saggy stone desert lager while watching this. The flavour was remarkably similar to what they were describing in the ipa. This vid helped to enjoy different aspects of the beer, many that i wouldn't usually consider. It's usually just a matter of "chugging it down" with a lot of effort. This may single-handedly help to progress toward liking it some day. For now, it has made taking down the soggy stone a bit easier. (This being one of the better beers I've had, or at least not as unpleasant) Sipping slowly and letting the flavour roll over the entire tongue. Gathering different flavours before swallowing. Noticing the tail-end burn and numbness of the tongue. The aftertaste isn't as bad as it usually would be. Right now, the only difficult part is swallowing, due to holding it in the mouth a bit longer. After a couple of smaller sips, that part isn't too bad either. After all of that, even gulping down a bit isn't as bad as it usually would be. There's still a long way to go before I'll enjoy beer in general, but this makes it not an entirely unpleasant experience until then. Thanks and have a great day :)

Haha! We're glad it helped at least to make the beer enjoyable! Never had that one, but remember that the key to drinking beer is drinking what you like! Tasting helps A LOT with that, so cheers and drink something that you love!

This is definitely the long way of doing this. You can set your psi to serving pressure right from the start, and it will be fully carbonated in 5 hours.

Set that sucker to 13 psi, wait five hours and boom. I have recently had better luck starting at a lower psi, and gradually increasing it over the 5 hour period, but you gotta baby sit it. The whole point of this is convenience and speed. But ya, straight to your serving psi, wait 5 hours and it will be ready to drink.

There will be a pressure drop across the stone. Should that not be considered when selecting pressure… for example if it takes 3 psi for the CO2 to start passing through the stone, should we add that onto the serving pressure otherwise it will come in undercarbed.

I have done it exactly like you. Little head pressure (20psi) to make sure the lid is sealed, then lower to 2psi and put the CO2 on the lid. the head pressure pushes beer into my co2 line at first. Dont we want to keep our CO2 lines dry? Now I feel like I have to push 20psi, seal lid, purge, then connect to lid...
@BrewChatterTV
@BrewChatterTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you definitely want to keep your CO2 lines clean. If it's going back through the coupler into your CO2 lines, that just means that the keg has more pressure than what you're pushing in and it's trying to equalize by going back out into the CO2 side. Once you're sealed, try bleeding off a little then putting on your CO2 so that it doesn't shoot back through. Cheers!

I never really understood the popularity of the IPA honestly, whats behind that? Cuz most IPAs have this tangy not pleasant taste in it that is so sour that it almost tastes bitter. I love sour beers and adore kriek beers, but i cant handle that taste flavor of the IPA... weirdest point being that i love Tripel beers! I think dry hopping spoils it for me

@BrewChatterTV
@BrewChatterTV 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt! Sounds like you're getting pressure pushed back into the line because your pressure in the keg is higher than the pressure going into it. All you have to do is bleed the keg when you make the switch, and you'll be rock and roll! I hope that helps! Cheers!

@@mattdixon4236 I hope it helps! Anytime! You should only have to bleed it a little when you make a switch to a new nitrogen tank. Nitrogen doesn't go into solution, so it shouldn't build pressure while the tank is still attached.

Thank you guys so much for making this!!! I'm trying to make hard seltzer in a tropical environment. I'm reading that the seltzer needs to ferment in 70 degree (F)? So I'll need to keep it in a stabilized cooler for 4 weeks(?) while it brews. I also don't have a keg or kegging gear. Hey Claudia! It's our pleasure, and thanks for watching! With our Hard Seltzer Yeast Kit, found here: brewchatter.com/products/hardseltzerbrewwaterwaterkit , 70 degrees is no problem. That being said, if you can ferment in a stabilized cooler, it would help quite a bit. It will make the fermentation cleaner. Plan on a 2 week fermentation, then you can bottle condition to carbonate if you don't have kegs yet.
