Earlier on in my fall down the rabbit hole of older movies, I watched a movie very similar to this only the friend had a boyfriend she was constantly ragging on for his love of some particular fat food vs. his overweight condition despite her being quite chunky herself. Can anyone think of a movie and it's title to fit my description???

I discovered Brian Aherne watching "Sylvia Scarlett". I think he was much better than Cary Grant and Gary Cooper put together. Why wasn't he such star like them? This voice and hair when uncombed 😀 His characters are full of life... 🌞
@one4allfour113 күн бұрын
I have to tell you, I absolutely agree with you! I discovered him watching “Merrily We Live”, which is my all time favorite screwball comedy-for soooo many reasons (Brian Ahern being the first!😄). I then shared my new find with my family-I had to! He is my very favorite male actor. I’m not sure about his mediocre rise to stardom. Of course, there must be a reason or reasons. I do know he loved stage acting and performed successfully on Broadway. He made at least 30 films, and every one I’ve seen, I’ve loved 🥰
@emmamii13 күн бұрын
@@one4allfour1 I watched "Merrily We Live" too - it's so funny and also romantic! 😅 And these doggies... ☺ I saw only some comedies with him, but I would like to watch "The Song of Songs" with Marlene Dietrich... Maybe if he loved stage acting, he didn't have time to become movie star... 😅

@emmamii You watched Merrily We Live!🥳. I’m so glad. “Get off the rug”, and, “You too”- hilarious memes for dogs😁 I’ve seen the “Song of Songs”…if I remember correctly, it was the right movie for her, an interesting story-kind of ethereal👍🏼

@@one4allfour1 I watched "Song of Songs" yesterday and I liked it. Marlene is so cute and Brian Aherne so young. ☺ The story was a little sad, but I also found it ethereal, I even cried... 🥲

You’ve got to give these old classics at least 10 minutes until the story starts , there’re mostly all like that , a man be com-into screen , and then in a few minutes he may fall into a dream , or a lady may be telling a story and then we’re into a great acting of a great story! There the Best thing to take you away from this evil world for a while ! To another place and time in the passed ! Thank you for uploading!😊❤🎉 PS . Here 3years later to enjoy this old classic again ,

A songwriter comes to NYC to try & get one particular singer to perform his only song. Hard to believe. Even harder to believe is that actors Johnnie Walker and Alice Day are cinematic magic. They're not.

Made for RKO just before David O Selznick left the studio to start as an independent, it borrowed major stars like John Barrymore and Myrna Loy, plus veteran supporting players like Jobyna Ralston, who made the mave from silent to sound. "Man, Woman and Sin: Twice Daily!!" A nice dig at the soon-to-be Hays/Breen Code, which would make realistic storylines near impossible for better than three decades. So good that Selznick purchased the film later from RKO.

I actually love this movie. At the end when the water floods the field and everyone is jumping around with such exhilaration. I know it’s simple but sometimes you need simple. 🌺🙏🥰
@one4allfour123 күн бұрын
@@SusanR.Daniel That is a fact! Well said! Sometimes you really do need “simple”, because there you probably will find it is akin to joy, rest, thankfulness or other basics in life that bring us back to child-like happiness (which would be a great, sustained, adult-like quality to have, as well👍🏼😀)

Had only seen Louise Brooks in silents, so was shocked to hear her with such a crass voice in this silent-turned-talkie! But was relieved to read that the awful voice was dubbed because Louise refused to finish cooperating. Too bad Jean Arthur didn't have much to do here, but William Powell is already, this early in talkies, his usual suave self.

I love these old movies, such grace and style. Good stories, not trashy, no swearing and no mocking of people who have faith. Its so refreshing. Its mostly what I watch now thanks to great streaming services and lovely sites like this one. Real story lines, not just a lot of noise and nude bodies. What a shame movies have devolved into what they are now. This is one of the great old movies I loved. I remember watching a lot of these classic movies with my Mom when I was a little girl. The actors had to really act, not just strip off. It seems like movies now are so dark, and pessimistic and vulgar.

what message was the writer of this movie sending by using misandrist dialogue. I noticed he always calls her mother and she refers to him only as "henry". They have no children, yet he calls her mother. Definitely creepy dialogue ...of the weird kind.
