I love this film. I salute you for posting it. Myrna Loy was a dear friend from 1961 until her death. I was 14 when I met her. My mother was her agent at MCA and invited her to dinner. She was not only beautiful, a delightful actor but a remarkable and loving human being.This is one of her many fine films pre the great MGM days. People tend to remember more the exotic roles before MGM but she actually did some very unique and intelligent films like this one. She actually had a small part in the semi silent version of Don Juan also with Barrymore. He was difficult and sadly a drunk but was a consummate actor and she learned much from him.
@one4allfour17 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your memories of Myrna Loy with us! I think often we forget that our favorite actors and actresses were real people with lives outside the studios they worked for. It's nice to be reminded of this :) P.S. I love seeing Myrna Loy in other than Thin Man movies--she was a natural in all the different roles she played, as she is in "Topaz"!

Jack Barrymore was so good in everything that he did. It's mesmerizing to watch Ethel, Lionel and Jack in anything. Myrna Loy told a story to Dick Cavett about being snubbed by Barrymore on the first day of cast introductions. They had known each other since Don Juan (1926). She complained to the producer and the next day there was a knock on her door. It was Barrymore and he apologized profusely for the other night but he was seeing three of her and didn't know which one to approach.

So John was drunk ? That's really sad that he was under the influence of alcohol to get the nerve up to apologize
@unowen-nh9ov Жыл бұрын
@@theresaholguin699 Since you weren't there you don't know that he was. Gable was rude to Loy & snubbed her on their 1st movie together (he was chasing another actress) but they became great friends & co-stars. Barrymore was a notorious lady's man, a terrified Hepburn greeted him with "My father doesn't want me to get pregnant!", Astor was a child, but he & Garbo got along from the get-go. Wasn't Loy an extra in silents? No wonder star wouldn't remember his now leading lady.

Excellent movie, script and iconic actors. This movie was engaging yet not judgemental and the ending had a surprise twist. This is because it was pre code in that era and simply told a story sans moralizing. This is beyond excellent and it was great seeing Barrymore and Loy act together. Please watch n draw your own conclusions. I rate this a golden 10 and highly recommend it.

It's an indictment against our school systems, our mainstream media and our 'civilization' as a whole. I am also personally ashamed for the way I speak. Made for RKO just before David O Selznick left the studio to start as an independent, it borrowed major stars like John Barrymore and Myrna Loy, plus veteran supporting players like Jobyna Ralston, who made the mave from silent to sound. "Man, Woman and Sin: Twice Daily!!" A nice dig at the soon-to-be Hays/Breen Code, which would make realistic storylines near impossible for better than three decades. So good that Selznick purchased the film later from RKO.

I LOVE this movie, too! I just had to find it and upload it for you to see! It so amazed me that the story mirrored everything we read about today! (90 years ago!) I just loved the humor and pathos of Mr. Barrymore’s character and situations. And the Truths reflected in the story are age-less! It sure helps to teach us that people are the same, no matter how many decades pass.

The Barrymore's were simply brilliant, John was such a delight to behold before his tragic descent into self parody.

His tragic descent into self parody actually quite funny on 20th Century.

How Very exceptional & ever so pertinent most definitely today, 3 days into the invasion of the Ukraine. Thank you for this most wonderful look back at what Once made America great.
