I've always seen this song not as a duet but two parts of the same performer/narrator (Simone). Emi Evan's part is who she sees herself as and who she wants to be. Serene, Eloquent, Meek, Calm, and Beautiful. J'Nique Nicole's part is who she really is and cannot hide. Majestic, Powerful, Brave, Unrelenting, and most of all- Beautiful.

A crackling in her comms told her that Pascal was watching. There might still be survivors, and the Reaper was wasting time. The desperate squawking in her ears grew louder, a spasm ran through her body and her knees almost gave. She gritted her teeth and tried to focus. "Hey mister? How do you make children?" Laying before her was a child wearing a pink bow. It was motionless, curled protectively over another corpse. It hadn't actually spoken at all; the Reaper was just hearing things. The Reaper wanted to say that she didn't know to make children. But tears were streaming down her cheeks as she knelt to the ground in front of the two dead sisters. "I-I'm sorry," the Reaper sobbed as she took the child's ribbon, tying it around her ears. She wished there was enough fabric to wrap her eyes. Then she threw her arms around the little girl and began to cry. The dead flesh was cold as metal against her body, but she didn't let go. The Reapers had come again -- and she'd been a fool to think she could ever protect anybody from them.

A beautiful song from NieR automata sires is a masterpiece like literally Nier automata game is a masterpiece.

I DONT THINK WE TALK ABOUT THIS TRACK ENOUGH. IT'S SO GOOD. the circus tune we all know and love is no stranger to getting twisted into something darker and more sinister, but Automata puts a flair to said tune unique to Automata's universe that gives it this haunting feeling of desparation for something joyous. It's dark, but it's also /trying/ and it's /failing/ and, the absolute sucker for tragedy and banger soundtracks that I am, I love it!

It's so surreal that the composer made up this language just for the soundtrack to this game. Genuinely sounds exactly how he wanted it, like a language that would be spoken thousands of years in the future❤😢

This hit me so hard when I started playing. I was wandering around city ruin after walking out of the Resistance camp, then fought my first legimitate fight with machines, and this track started playing. It just showed that while this was my first time, those lone soldiers have been through those fights a thousand times already, and this has just become their lives: fighting over and over for a war they thought would bring help to a thousand people, but in reality had no purpose at all.

How I love this game…

I actually did kill anyone in this park, I remember walking without touch these innocent robots, I don't remember how far I went but I think it's possible to get inside the castle without hurting a single robot, which make it much more sad because how this game make you feel like a superior creature that hunt down innocent little creatures, and the worse part is you killing these robots for nothing...

She, Simone, is a reference to Simone du Beauvoir, philosopher and one of the founder of the basis for feminism as we know it. Although, the relationship here is a contrary parallel to that of the two philosophers: it was Jean who didn’t like the freedom and liberty of Simone, she was the one having other lovers, their relationship was an open one. In the game Simone couldn’t stand Jean’s indifference and coldness towards her. And we all see where that got her.
