Charlie George's winning goal wouldn't have happened these days, when teams play out from the back. Ray Clemence blindlly boots the ball down field, giving away possession to the opposition; Arsenal play it back into Liverpool's half and promptly score.

17 when this was played. Funny, to look back now and see The Arsenal on the verge of greatness. Pointless now to wonder how different things might have been had the club not cashed in on Liam Brady and Frank Stapleton. That said, it was worth the wait for Michael Thomas's last-minute winner at Anfield in 1989. That may be my happiest Arsenal memory. Still a few more to come? We'll see.

Liam Brady was MOTM in our FA cup final forty-five years ago. His pace tormented Manchester United to get us the cup forty six years ago.

I actually fell in love with Arsenal FC ( at age 9) the year before with a cup final they lost ( 1-0 to Ipswich)..but this final cemented my devotion to them. And "Chippy:" Brady was my favourite player along with Frank Stapleton, Pat Jennings and O'Leary ...but Brady was phenomenal , he was Football Writers or PFA Player of the year 78/79 i believe. That team underachieved ., were destined to be great ( consecutive Cup Finals , moving into top 4 consistency but Brady's move to Juventus and the dissipation of that team for whatever reason, it didn't quite happen.) ...but i will always have love for that team

Spurs fan. 10 at the time. This game was one of the greats. Some have no idea how big the fa cup was in UK culture ( Scotland always had their final same day). 12 page pull out in the tabloids , itv + BBC both starting cup final day coverage about 11am , 4 hours of programming. Cameras on the team bus from hotel to stadium. Fa cup matches always got bigger attendances than league games. Champion league changed everything. Qualification for champions league was the only thing that mattered. Half the teams playing weakened teams because CL, relegation, promotion is all that matters. Am I a old git?

Somedays you just couldn't believe what you'd seen and have to wait until MOTD for a replay. I was right behind the goal for the triple lob v Everton and everyone went nuts. When the game finally kicked off again, there was a spontaneous outburst of applause starting in the North Bank that swept around the stadium and the great man took a bow to us all. Great day. Really felt for Southall though, no chance whatsoever.

I remember this game well. Was gutted when they equalised, but we still won the day. Great match. Not sure about the music though.

I will never forget this goal. Young french soccer player, like us, we were all Charlie George after this cup final. I remember in a pub in London in 1995 drinking a beer surrounded by arsenal fans, asking me if I knew Arsenal ? I said no! But I know Charlie George! You can imagine how many beers we had together and we spent such a good time together, they didn’t know how Charlie George was famous in France!
