My husband and I saw Dan live many times-both solo and with his band. He always put on an excellent show, spending time playing both guitar and piano and sharing stories about writing the songs and the places that mean a lot to him, has a good sense of humor. You’re right that the sound quality here doesn’t really do him justice. He is a virtuoso on many instruments-he has one album on which he plays every instrument on every song-I’m forgetting which one at the moment, sorry. His voice is unique, quite lovely.

there is no clint eastwood vibe in that country hick. Why? Because Eastwood is western movie.

This is the first song on the first disc of a 2-record album called "The Innocent Age". In his liner notes Dan wrote: Thank you to my father for his Gift of Music, and thank you to my mother for her Gift of Words." (if that isn't the exact quote, it is damn close.) Fogelberg was one of those rare Gifts that we get every now and then. He said in an interview that Gordon Lightfoot was on of his biggest influences. Thanks for finding him--you will not be disappointed.

Coming on your stuff late, so don't know if you've watched it, but you need to look up a 2010s performance he offered of "Galveston" that has a massive guitar riff in it.

Also, Glen was previously an actor. Was big in the Hollywood scene. He had a natural stage presence. Also check out "Rhinestone Cowboy"

I saw Dan Fogelberg at least 5 times live. Always amazing. I think he did have some vocal cord issues at some point…no idea what kind. Listen to this song recorded.. you will not be disappointed!

According to Wikipedia, his father was of Swedish descent, not German. Just FYI.

Dan when doing live shows, was often in a hurry to get through his songs. I don't understand why. I have most of His albums and they were slowed down a lot. I have always enjoyed his music. I saw him once, and was a bit disappointed in his performance because of the rush of all of his songs. Never really talked to the audience except when he finished his last song, then said, ''It's been a rough night." then walked off the stage. Sat down, played fast, off the stage. Good night. I do not know if he was diagnosed with cancer at that time and still performed in pain. IDK. It wasn't really an enjoyable show.

Jesse's songwriting and playing at first reminded me of John Prine (separate from his electric rock side!) Then I discovered he did several covers of Prine's songs. Dylan commented in an interview that Prine was one of his greatest influencers. Prine met Dylan at a party at Carly Simon's house. Prine had attended a Kris Kristofferson concert and then the two men went to Carly's house to play music. This was the first time Dylan met John Prine and a few weeks later Dylan was playing the harmonica! Jesse is definately following the brilliant songwriting ability of Bob Dylan and John Prine. That was my era of folk with great songwriting! I'm now 70 and becoming a big fan of Jesse. Stella Guitars were first made in the early 1900's. Depending on the year made they used different kinds of wood from Spruce to Poplar, Birch and Oak. They were made for those with a low budget but some went to mid-range parlor guitars and they were sold by Sears. Many well known blues muscians played Stella Guitars as well as Maybelle Carter, Elvis, Tom Petty, Cobaine and Kottke to get that certain "Stella" sound.

This song was released, on LP, in 1981. By that time, Dan had been writing songs for around 15 years. His first LP, "Home Free" was released in 1972 and many more followed. I have most of them and was lucky enough to see Dan twice in concert. His songs are poetic & insightful, as you described. Dan was an excellent guitarist and pianist plus played many other instruments. He even drew the cover art, a self portrait, for "Home Free". Thanks to Kelly for suggesting this.

Both Dan Fogelberg and Richard Pryor were born in Peoria, Illinois, USA. "Will it play in Peoria?" is an American English figure of speech that is traditionally used to ask whether a given product, person, promotional theme, or event will appeal to mainstream United States audiences or across a broad range of demographic and psychographic groups.

Hi Dave, I stumbled onto your site last night and I was an instant fan. Great videos! I'm wondering if you have heard of John Williamson, from Australia? He is, in my opinion, an awesome entertainer. Please give him a listen and hopefully a review on you channel. Thanks for the great content, and keep up the good work, This is an example of his work: John Williamson - Galleries Of Pink Galahs (Live - 2003)

I’m so glad to see music lovers of all ages here. The singer/songwriter is still alive in Americana music. Effron White is carrying on where greats like Guy Clarke, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine and others left off. Thank you for supporting those who are carrying on the tradition. 💖🎶💖

I listen to Jim Croce a lot, he's always been on rotation ever since I was little. "Time in a Bottle" is a must listen, he wrote it immediately after his wife told him she was pregnant. My favorites are "I Got a Name", "Photographs and Memories", and "You Don't Mess Around with Jim". A lot of people love "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown", too. You really can't go wrong with any of his. ❤

Jim Croce's name is definitely not spelled like it sounds. Another example: When I was younger, people would pronounce Neil Peart 'Neil Pert' instead of 'Neil Peert.'
