so for basketball they’re literally just playing on a court put together on top of the ice?
@JimmySlaughter9 ай бұрын
That's exactly how it works. There is 1" thick plastic sheeting that gets laid down on the ice. They go in a specific order so that the sheets sorta lock together. Then, the court is built on top of that. The plastic acts as an insulation layer, and they keep the ice cold enough so it doesn't melt while the court is on top of it.

This is sweet, Do you or your pop's know if you can desolder and repurpose these GVG buttons to something modern like home automation or something?
@JimmySlaughter10 ай бұрын
They could be desoldered, but I think it might be easier to source some new ones that are similar-looking. I would guess that they might be available from places like Digi-Key and Mouser.

Just wondering here you found the water tank ?
@JimmySlaughter Жыл бұрын
The tank is made by ICON. I bought it from Panther RV.
@Scottland652 Жыл бұрын
Probably the first connect I've seen that has the water under the van. How did you mount it to the body?
@JimmySlaughter Жыл бұрын
I constructed a tray from sheet metal, and secured it to the frame with threaded 1/4" rods. The tray is painted to help prevent rust, and on the side that is close to the exhaust pipe, I designed an insulation barrier that is sandwiched between two layers of sheet metal, to protect the tank from melting.

5:00 Wow, finding a place for this fresh water tank saves a lot of precious room inside the van. Thanks! I am definitely putting this on my to do list when planning my build. I have a 2012 Ford Transit Connect Premium that I'm just starting to convert to a camper.
@oxygencrossroads Жыл бұрын
@3:00 Jimmy, thanks for the tip about drilling out the spot welds to get rid of those seatbelt holders. I just discovered your playlist today, and I'll be watching your videos over and over as I go through the same steps starting out my camper build. I am also from Texas and bought a 2012 Ford Transit Connect XLT Premium last month that had to have been originally customized just like yours with the same interior trim, LED lamp, cargo liner, and rivet holes in the floor, but someone had already taken out the desk and chair. The previous owner was a carpenter, so it had sawdust in every nook and cranny that I have been cleaning. I have a few repairs to do to get it as fit as yours looked on day 1, which was apparently 6 years ago.
@JimmySlaughter Жыл бұрын
That's fantastic! I hope these videos are helpful to you. Good luck with your build. I also recommend checking out the Transit Connect Campers group on Facebook. There's a lot of good tips, tricks, and build ideas going over there.

I prefer to build with Woodglut plans.
@JimmySlaughter2 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of Woodglut. Anyway, there probably aren't any plans out there for building van cabinetry in a Transit Connect, especially since there are so many variations in the curvature of the vehicle body.

Hey, I know I've been reeeaaaallllyyy slow on putting up these videos from my 2019 trip. Sorry about that. I just don't have much time to edit them, but I also take forever to produce the music. Will I ever finish making videos for the rest of them, and my subsequent road trips since then? Who knows! Thanks for sticking with me, though.

This is awesome and tragic all at once. GVG made the best stuff. Well they still do, but just not the same. Next phase: buttons and fader tied to home automation. The stereo, room lighting, sprinklers...
@JimmySlaughter2 жыл бұрын
They do still make great stuff. The studio I work at just upgraded to GVG LDX96 cameras and OCP500s. They are very futuristic compared the Ikegami's we had before. Anyway, my dinning table won't do much more than randomly turn on the panel lights, for now. Would be cool to do something more with it. Maybe someday.

One question though. Why did you use boards to build your cabinets instead of plywood or 2x2? Was it for weight? Price? Availability? I've built a few things already, but still have a lot to learn in woodworking.
@JimmySlaughter3 жыл бұрын
@@alixlachaud8034 Strength! I like to build things rigid. If you noticed, I used pocket screws in many places which adds to the integrity of the joints. Pocket screws don't work very well in plywood. Also, I find plywood alone to be rather unattractive and difficult to dress up. I used a combination of 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, and 1x6 pine boards to build the frame, but in the next video I cover it with thin plywood and laminate, which looks quite nice.

Just skimming over the video. Didn't know you lived in Texas. Good to hear you are still alive. I have TikTok and saw many videos of people losing their homes to the burst pipes and a number of people passed away in the cold. I am more disgusted by how everyone mocked and insulted Texans for what was happening.
@JimmySlaughter3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Before this storm, most people here(and everywhere else) had no idea that Texas was on it's own power grid. The impacts of a rare weather event immediately became political. Fortunately, since I didn't have power, I wasn't able to spend much time on the internet that week. I missed out on the majority of tweets that said I deserved to freeze in my darkened home because of who the majority in my state voted for.

I initially visited GTNP in 1963, and most recently a four day visit in 2019. I actually prefer GTNP over Yellowstone. I really enjoyed seeing the park through your eyes in this well-done video. I recognized most of the locations you visited, and was surprised at some you didn't include, e.g., the Snake River Overlook off U.S. 191 where Ansel Adams created his famous photo "Tetons and the Snake River", and the view of the mountains reflected in Oxbow Bend. And yes, you need to return, probably multiple times.
@JimmySlaughter3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for saying that! And yes, I know I missed quite a bit. When I left the Moose visitor center, 191 was backed up with traffic at a standstill, so I went back up the park road. I wanted to see Mormon Row and and Snake River, but not this time. I also want to hike up Paintbrush Canyon. Someday I'll go back...

Did you have building plans or did you measure and plan as you built it? I want to do a similar bed in the same van. Having plans would help tremendously. Thank you for the videos
@JimmySlaughter3 жыл бұрын
I measured the inside dimensions of the van, then modelled it up in SketchUp. I designed the bed frame and most of the cabinetry in that desktop application. I was able to refer to that while doing the conversion. Of Course, things did change a bit as I was going along.

@@JimmySlaughter How hard was it to interface with the Arduino? I looked everywhere for Documentation On the Communications Port With no success , I envy your Success With figuring out the handshake That has to happen 1st, At least that's how I understand it anyway
@JimmySlaughter4 жыл бұрын
@@-r9277 As I recall, we interfaced with one of the ribbon connectors on the board that holds the buttons for the M/Es. I had stripped out most of the boards from the panel to save weight, so I inadvertently chucked the main board, I think. So, there isn't a handshake, so much as just sending voltages to the lights. Basically, my dad figured out the addressing for the lights and then wrote a script that would randomly fire them off and different intervals. I think there are different sub addresses for each M/E.
@-r92774 жыл бұрын

This is soooo beautiful. Can you make this for other folks ? I have an old Panasonic WJ-MX 30 that I can't throw away ? Possible to get it to sequence the lights and build a table ??? Cost approximation ! It would be sooo....cool. Thanks
@JimmySlaughter4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have never really thought of doing commissions. The MX30 is pretty small though. I suppose one could be made into an end table. I would recommend seeking out a local woodworker as they are likely much more skilled than I am at making tables. As for the electronics, I don't know. The Panasonic board maybe more sophisticated since the switcher and control surface are integrated. May be enough to just power it on and have the lights be static.

Thanks for the reply. I live outside of Lititz PA home of the Clair Brothers which do all the major concerts in the world. They made a new hotel called Rock Lititz and in some of the rooms they are customized with old equipment and posters of rock stars in concerts of days gone by. Somebody took a full audio mixer and turned it into a table just like yours and had all the flying faders moving and lights turning on and that's what gave me the idea a long time ago to do that with a video switcher but you're the first one I've ever seen do it successfully very cool.

Very nice build. I wonder where did you find this water tank? Or how do I search for something similar!
@JimmySlaughter4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! My tank is made by ICON, and I bought it from Panther RV. There are several tank vendors online, and many of them you can search by capacity or dimensions. So, if you already know what size tank you need, it makes searching for one a little bit easier.
