I gravitate to the tools / machinery that need the attention that nobody else wants. Make it a runner ..... that's what it was made for. I have a 200A that will probably need the Caswell as well.

The fuel pickup tube is either clogged or stuck in the closed position. You will need to remove it and boil it in vinegar and flush it with carburetor cleaner. Give the spring a little stretch to give it a little life. If this one was mine, I would definitely want to get it running. Very cool lantern indeed. Thanks for sharing, and God bless.
@colemanrestorationsrepair4171 Жыл бұрын
Most likely it wad asbestos inside the generator. If you had kept it intact, you could have burned the carbon off with your torch. It would have turned snow white and good as new. The main thing is keeping it wet. Don't let it get airborne. When you reassemble it, soak it with fuel or carburetor cleaner to keep it wet.

That's probably what's going to happen once caswell tank sealer is available again, I will probably do a follow up video on that, as this lantern has proved to be a great runner!

Yes! Be selective! The last thing you want to be is one of those guys who has their garage full of 220’s and 228’s. I would fire up that 242 if I were you. You will find that they are one of the best running, and easiest to work on lanterns Coleman ever made. I have a 242c, and a 249. The 249 is a kerosene model.

I have a question you might be able to answer, have a dual fuel lantern I’m restoring kinda custom cause it was considered a loss due to rust and being in the salty coast . Runs now but having problem with it runs good then slowly dying out even though it’s gots plenty of fuel and pressure! What can cause this ?
@runswithscissorsranch Жыл бұрын
It sounds like without seeing it that it has a leak pump it up and then submerge the tank into water, I bet the gasket on the fill cap is bad. Good luck!
@louiewiessv5756 Жыл бұрын
Thank you will try . Couldn’t help but notice it has plenty of pressure when this happened and was hard to pump since it has plenty but when it dies out with the fuel knob all the way trying to light it , it doesn’t want to light , and you can hear gas coming out but not easy to light back up , let it sit and try min later fires up and is good for 10+ min and starts doing it again. It’s really odd and has plenty of fuel . I’m think generator probs due to it being original from 08 .

Is the process the same for 502 stoves? Someone mentioned holding the valve closed while removing the keeper nut, is that an issue?

@mikemorgan5015 Жыл бұрын
Dude, it's so much easier to take the valve off the fuel line and assemble it off the stove. On 502s, like most Coleman products, the instructions are printed on the stove. READ THEM. They tell you that the lighting lever goes out, horizontal, away from the stove to light, NOT UP, like on a suitcase stove. Quarter turn on the valve give you air/fuel mix for starting, lighting lever out gives you full feed rate and velocity for good atomization and quickest starts with minimum yellow flare. When the needle came off the eccentric block during the first assembly attempt it was still going to light. I could hear air. Then, when you messed with the lever, it pushed the needle forward completely blocking the gas tip. But since the hood wasn't in the block, it couldn't retract again. So the needle was just blocking everything. But you figured it out eventually and got it running perfectly. The owner will be happy. For startup, set the lever straight out and don't mess with it until you have steady blue for about 10 sec. To make future startups as trouble free as possible, when you shut it down, go back the the 1/4 turn position on the main valve and leave it there until the flame leans out and changes color for a few seconds. This purges most of the liquid fuel from the generator and gives you more air for a better start next go round. Hope the hand is 100% by now. Keep up the good work.
