Dude, it's so much easier to take the valve off the fuel line and assemble it off the stove. On 502s, like most Coleman products, the instructions are printed on the stove. READ THEM. They tell you that the lighting lever goes out, horizontal, away from the stove to light, NOT UP, like on a suitcase stove. Quarter turn on the valve give you air/fuel mix for starting, lighting lever out gives you full feed rate and velocity for good atomization and quickest starts with minimum yellow flare. When the needle came off the eccentric block during the first assembly attempt it was still going to light. I could hear air. Then, when you messed with the lever, it pushed the needle forward completely blocking the gas tip. But since the hood wasn't in the block, it couldn't retract again. So the needle was just blocking everything. But you figured it out eventually and got it running perfectly. The owner will be happy. For startup, set the lever straight out and don't mess with it until you have steady blue for about 10 sec. To make future startups as trouble free as possible, when you shut it down, go back the the 1/4 turn position on the main valve and leave it there until the flame leans out and changes color for a few seconds. This purges most of the liquid fuel from the generator and gives you more air for a better start next go round. Hope the hand is 100% by now. Keep up the good work.

Honestly man, watching you getting the job done with that messed up hand earned you another subscriber!

The bandage on the hand and watching you stumble through this sure gives more context to the channel name.

I got a 502 with the boxes, paper work, pot/pan - mine isn't as old (I believe it's from 66' with the "patents pending" logo). It was maybe used 1 time when I got it and it runs like a champ! I use the hell out of it as it was intended. I actually felt bad even lighting it the first time because it is perfect but I don't buy these things to sit on a shelf. The pot/pan combo that turns into a case for it is by far the best thing out there (in my opinion). Someday it will be passed down to my kids as well.
