My great grandfather was born in East Germany in the latter 1800’s and came to the US around 1900. I have had an interest in Germany since I was young. I love history and architecture of the past. I happened upon a CBS News segment about what you are doing. I look forward to discovering your other videos and look forward to future ones. Thank you for sharing your work!

Incredibly eerie place. The architecture is typically brutalist of Speer’s creations of the time, also it has echoes of camps like Sachsenhausen in the ironwork in the windows. Gives me the jitters, honestly. Great video, thank you.

Amazing story. Amazing video!! What's the status as of August 2023? I guess it's much more sealed off now ? - with the future plans of the reopening in mind..

Awesome! It's got that exact kind of disquieting atmosphere that lights a fire in me. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

Siemensbahn in planed to be reopened with S-Bahn service from 2029. First works on the old infrastructure already have began.

Well done documentary, nice how you follow the tracks when arriving at a station so it feels like it's an S-Bahn! Wow though, that seems like quite a bit of work to clean up, repair and renew in order to take it back into service; guess that's why it will take a decade (well that and politics, planning etc :)

I am fascinated by the S-Bahn and railways in Berlin and it’s history and lines and the parts of it that are abandoned, much of which is untouched and largely unimpeded even after decades of development. The Siemensbahn from the Spree to Gartenfeld is apparently protected as a historical monument and there are even mutterings of it being reinstated to serve the new Siemens research campus in Siemensstadt, which would be really interesting but only if they retain or replace all the steel bridgework which is so iconic. The buildings alone deserve preservation, Gartenfeld is a really good example of German 1920s architecture style.

Fascinating location that has great stories. I was able to visit East Berlin in the ‘70s (Military) and once beyond the visible facades (as viewed from the western sector) the streets were lined with bomb sites, empty spaces and drab buildings. It is not surprising that this theatre was used as a vegetable store and general warehouse. The ‘cultural’ focus was on the DDR State Opera as a source of Western currency...that was the primary rationale for selling tickets. I was able to view Spandau prison (from the outside) and so wish it had been kept. You would have loved exploring it Ciaran.....

This kind of esoteric abandoned stuff around Berlin fascinates me. There are so many places that have just been left, perhaps where more cramped cities might demolish and rebuild Berlin just leaves huge areas to time and nature. I very much will enjoy more of the videos like this too, perhaps also some longer informational productions?

Love it. Plenty more to come I hope. A brave and clearly skilled drone pilot. Would love to have seen a drone-simulation of a plane landing & taking off. There's nothing like clanking down the runway to evoke the atmosphere of an airport, even a ghost one. Next airport maybe? Wouldn't quite call it music but it is certainly a brilliant soundtrack for this place. Congratulations.
