Grew up in Tucson, left in the spring of '82; most of what I appreciated was either being, or had been destroyed. (I'm 72, so I don't expect you to understand) Three examples - Mt. Lemmon was truly in the wild, but when I left, there was already metered parking areas. To preserve Sabino Canyon, a roadblock had to be set up, whereas prior to that, you could drive much further, to where there was parking, and a circular turn around point. Ina Road, was a good 15 minutes out of town, heading to Phoenix on I -10, on a brief visit in '84; was shocked to see the entire area was developed; if not incorporated into Tucson city limits, you couldn't tell. Lastly, when I left, the furthest housing developments were at 8400 east, (Harrison Rd) in '99, I found out that there were addresses listed as 15,000 east. The old saying "you can't go home again" rings true. BTW, Tarantulas are a beneficial spider, eating their weight in vermin every day, so please don't kill them.

I’ve heard from a few people how quiet Tucson has changed to a bustling busy city. Wish I could’ve seen it back then. Also I wouldn’t ever kill the tarantulas. I just prefer them to stay out in the desert! 😂

Monsoons in Tucson are a favorite of mine. Almost Native 🌞
@SuenosDeLaNoche
@SuenosDeLaNoche 11 күн бұрын
Moved out to Tucson from Minneapolis with my parents in 1959. I am an almost native. Solo and group hiking, volunteering in search and rescue for two decades, volunteer archaeology work, spelunking, and watching snow birders wilt in spring are a Few of my favorite things. I had the blessed fortune of living next to the "Old Man of the Mountain". Tony Zimmerman was the father of Mount Lemmon. He built the original sawmill and restaurant on the mountain. He taught me beekeeping (I was his apprentice as we used my truck to transfer collected colonies in the wild and brought same to his backyard) i was an avid listener for his historically significant memories. He was 102 years old when we first met. A true pioneer of the Arizona territory. I have many pictures to supplement the memories. Thank you for this thought and memory provoking video. Be well fellow Tusconan.

I currently live in Tucson. I heard you say there's a lot to do here. Other than hiking and staying inside to avoid the heat. I'm having a hard time staying busy. I was wondering what you've found to do around here. Do tell! lol
@travelswithtravis0117

Not sure how long you’ve been here. I’ve found the longer you live somewhere the less interested one typically becomes with what’s available. I’m comparing the list here to where we lived in Roswell, NM, where there is quite literally almost nothing to do. Tucson at least has all the typical stores plus some. Tons of restaurants. We’ve taken our son to the children’s museum quite a bit. Camped quite a bit as well as enjoying the outdoors when it’s not hot. I went to two separate arcades in town that were cool. When my fiend comes to visit we’re planning on checking out the Whisky Roads country bar. We did trail dust town once just to check it out. Have yet to go to old Tucson studios. There’s a neon sign museum I’m itching to check out. Plus still a load of restaurants and local eats I’m wanting to check out. I could go on but most of this is waiting until it’s like 90 for the high 😂

I used to work for Domino's in Tucson back in 89 and 90. Such fun times. It was a franchise then. I think there were a couple older guys that owned it. No computers yet. Only 12" or 16" pizza sizes. I think they had just started doing deep dish pizzas. Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite. That was it. Just those basic offerings. Oh yes, they still had the $3 guarantee (30 minutes or less). Vroom vroom :).

I love the foothills. The nature. More animals visible in summer when all the tourists are gone. I don't love how many homeless there are downtown, or the poverty in general. There's too many homeless children. The cost of housing is way overinflated,due to wealthier outsiders driving up prices and winter airbnbs. I also don't love that flying in and out is a hassle. Not as many direct flights.

Any additional info on the beach; how big, lounge chairs, sand quality, what's the surf like - ok to snorkle, or how rough ? Thanks
@travelswithtravis0117
@travelswithtravis0117 25 күн бұрын
There’s a small strip of beach in front. Sand is nice. You can walk it but it’s not that big. There’s no chairs down there or anything. The surf there is too rough for snorkeling though I did see someone surf in it. For snorkeling I would pack up and go to Black Rock or Kapalua. The earlier in the morning the calmer the waters.

Liked and followed specifically for that amazing Anti SeaBear circle reference 😂😂😂👌🏽 fellow millennial here. also, born and raised in Tucson and go up Mount Lemmon at least once, if not more, per year but have never camped in my life. Thinking of camping in October up there for my first time but I’m just so nervous and can’t help the irrational fear of “Axe Murderers”. Lol but thank you for the video. I feel much more comfortable and confident after seeing your video.

Haha SpongeBob reference ftw!! It’s fun to camp up there. I’d be more worried about bears than axe murderers. But as long as the campsite is clean overnight they shouldn’t be around. They have near proof metal containers at most sites to store food overnight 🐻

A little off-topic, but you putting the pizza in the front seat reminded me of back when I used to work at Domino’s. I put a pizza in my front passenger seat and I have no idea how it happened, but I turned a corner and that pizza somehow came up out of my seat and went out the window and landed in the street. That means that pizza would have had to rise up off of my seat like 2 feet and go through the window somehow. The speed limit was only 30 mph and I was only going around a slight turn. It’s probably been 15 years since that happened and I still think about it sometimes lol I’m just completely amazed And mystified how that happened. I don’t believe in ghosts or anything like that but honestly that’s the only explanation that I could come up with lol how did that pizza leave my seat and go out my window without being lifted up and tossed lol it was so crazy. Anyway, I’ve been working in an industry that I don’t really like anymore and I’m looking forward to just going back and deliver pizzas for a little while. I know everybody thinks their job sucks honesty domino really wasn’t that bad at all. Yeah the pay is not great, but it’s relatively stress-free and easy. Enjoy it while you can. I guarantee if you ever get a physical labor job, you’ll be sitting there dreaming about working at a Domino’s lol
@travelswithtravis0117
@travelswithtravis0117 Ай бұрын
Wow lol I would be soooo mad if that happened! I think you’re right. It’s the ghostly spirit of Pizza Hut messing with ya 😂 But you’re right. Dominos is mostly stress free. Drive pizza and listen to music. How hard is that? I drive in a good area thankfully and people are mostly generous. So I’ll be here awhile 🍕
