Wish I had seen this before I threw out my taped up tingley cowboy boot rubbers. Just couldn't find any new ones, and no one would fix'em. So hard to find a cobbler now days.

What a great kid! He is awesome, so relaxed and purpose driven, kind, caring. Just the kind of thing one hopes for the world right now. One light pointing people back to living right, true and caring. Nick, as an old (70years) pharmacy person, post advertisements for the pharmacy at the pharmaceutic schools.

"We live in a throw-away country", due in large part to the fact our manufacturing was pushed out of the US by politicians and a zipper, or whatever, now costs so much money its often cheaper to buy new. I had a seam open in my 10 year old winter bootsna couple of years hack, and it literally cost me the same amount to have them patched here than it wouldnhave cost me to buy new... I went ahead and patched them 'cause it's where my ethics live... But, imho, the above is * why * we've come to live in a throw away world.

Our news is so filled with ... negative stories. We can become jaded about the future. Our society needs to have more stories like this that provide an insight to the wonderful young people who will keep our country strong. Thank you. I need to know my grandchildren have hope of a strong and happy future.

I have a guy in seneca kansas that is retired from boot repair but has a very small shop with his industrial sewing machine yet. I take torn jeans to him and really, no matter how bad the tear, its $4 per pair of jeans. One of the last times i was in there i was wearing my old heavy work coat that was just about to loose one sleave completely by the seam at the shoulder. He ask me if i wanted that fixed, pulled it off, straight to the machine and he handed it back, $4.... He saves me a bunch or money...

I'm an avid gamer, and play various never-ending games with various communities. Over the years we've built very organised communities, a mixture of casual fun players, and hardcore no-lifers. One program we have for many games is a mentorship, where experienced players with time on their hands will teach/guide/help fresher players. And for those showing commitment, there is the sponsorship program. Established 'wealthy' players invest in getting a new and long-term committed player rushed through early game, and when they are able, they in turn will pay that forward to the next batch of new players, or pay the balance of the investment back into the community pool. This is something we can do, as their is no regulatory bodies, and no laws restricting how we operate. No red tape to get in our way of what is best for players. I'm sure this is something that would work even better in real life, and I often wonder why its not something already in place. Why can't students/apprenticeships have the option of a sponsor to get them through learning a trade/skill, under the requirement they MUST pay the value back when their earning is X (X depends on the field in which they work). Either as a sponsor to another person, or paid into a pool managed by someone who wants to sponsor others. Back in the day, this is how communities worked. Either within immediate family, where sons/daughters were trained by parents/guardians in the skill they had spent their life mastering. Or within a small community, where families found their child an appropriate apprenticeship from work available in the area. The benefits of becoming employed, or earning a living, this way is more than just money. It's a stress free way to let young people focus on learning and achieving. It removes the enormous money and time lost an individual struggling to manage both their learning and living. It takes the huge amount of money lost to unnecessarily wealthy bank/government owners, and puts it in the pockets of those who are actively contributing to society.

I had a store rather like that just down the street from me in Davenport, Iowa. I moved away a long time ago but I think it was called "Hayes". Although it wasn't a multi generation store, two young men bought it and kept it going. Curious one time, I asked if I could see their equipment and they took me for a little tour. Those machines aren't made any more. They were over 100 years old. Didn't miss what I took for granted. I miss 'em now.01222

America was built like this. Big corporations have taken this away. You could even go to your local drugstore and tell your pharmacist what was wrong and they would help you if they could. But small businesses like this Pastor generations and farms past regenerations made America what it is with the legal immigrants that came to this country and settled here from the time of the pilgrims onward. Let us hope that Trump can make America great again by deregulating so much that small businesses like this can once again thrive. There used to be a guy that fixed shoes two cities over from me while he closed up and there used to be one when I lived in Pittsburgh and there used to be places I could go get scissors and knives sharpened but there's no place now. Because small business people aren't allowed to exist, they're pushed out. When I was a child of 6 years of age we moved to Hagerstown, Maryland in the grocery store was owned by a local guy who employed a bunch of local people and if they didn't have what you wanted they would get it. What Costco do that for you? That's LED people go back to being people.
