February 2024 report: PERFECT DIRECTIONS. we wrote them down and followed to a T. Thank you!!! Using these meant no weird navigation through the heart of Mexicali. All major roads. The only thing we almost missed was the right turn after the 6th traffic light on Manuel Gomez Morin that takes you onto Calzada Ceytis, (probably my error, by the way.) It is a hard right so watch for it right after the Fairfield Hotel building on the right. Other than that, these directions and video were just what we needed. Many thanks for taking the time. Regular car lane to the border was 1 hour wait at 10 AM - not so bad; Ready and Sentri lanes, of course, moved more quickly because they were 3 lanes each.

Super helpful! Any reason you switched to this route instead of the other way where you went farther on presedentes and made a left on indepencia?
@OpenEarthII11 ай бұрын
No particular reason other than just showing alternate routes. In fact, I might be posting another alternate route to Hwy.5 soon. The Independencia route tend to be more direct but busier and has several traffic lights; the James Stone route slightly goes backward not as busy and, other than some stop signs, no traffic light along James Stone until Hwy. 5. Enjoy the drive.
@mattkhachadoorian926111 ай бұрын
@@OpenEarthIIThank you! I think every time I cross I go a different way lol. The past two trips across I have been pulled over almost immediately after crossing the border and that is not fun. I am wondering if staying on more of a "main street" will help to eliminate that when I go this weekend. I think trying to get on hwy5 as soon as possible has put me on smaller side streets which makes me more visible to police? I don't really know but I think I will try to stay on bigger streets to hopefully avoid any police lol.
@OpenEarthII11 ай бұрын
Definitely "yes" on staying on main streets. When I just started crossing, I relied on GPS, and end up in places in Mexicali that, maybe, I shouldn't be. So now, I stick with familiar routes and just use the GPS as supplement. So far, I never experienced issues using the James Stone route shown in this video to connect to Hwy 5. Drive safe.

Your US passports for sure. I assume you're driving, so, get a Mexican insurance for the duration of your stay. And to make your visit legit, get an FMM as you cross the border (most likely through Tijuana?); if staying for 7 days or less, FMM should be free.

What is the difference between the ready line and regular line??
@OpenEarthII Жыл бұрын
Ready lane are for those with ready lane eligible documents, otherwise, use the regular lane. From CBP website: Ready Lane-eligible cards contain Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, and include the following: U.S. Passport Cards, Enhanced Driver’s Licenses, Enhanced Tribal Cards, Enhanced Border Crossing Cards, Enhanced Permanent Resident Cards, and Trusted Traveler Program (NEXUS, SENTRI, Global Entry or FAST) cards.
@rodneymacomber6337 Жыл бұрын

Great reference, thanks! FYI to anyone without Sentri - Google will take you to Sentri without telling you, and if you don't have Sentri you'll get stopped and searched. Theoretically you could get fined some ridiculous amount too, like a couple thousand dollars I think, but usually the officers are cool and don't get into that. Anyway, if you don't have Sentri ignore Google and take that right at 4:37 !

The camel ride will only be up to two-thirds of the way. The last third to the summit is a very steep hike of 750 steps (-so they said; I didn't count). Knowing that, it really is up to the person's own capability and pace.
