Personally, this episode had me on the first half. An interesting villain, a poignant statement on warfare and the use of tech in warfare (which we can already see happen and escalate in the last 10 years), but the resolve is lazy. How did the AI know where to look? How did a product of the corporation bypass corporation security to then retaliate on the same system that created it? I agree that Ncuti provided a brilliant performance despite the writing but its definitely one of the weakest episode of Dr Who overall (story-wise) but it was better than the music episode with the beatles.

I really liked this episode. I hated space babies. I has mixted feelings for the second one. But that one was amazing.

Ah, it was the best of the 3 but still, imo, the 3rd worst episode ever done, other two were pathetic

I was going to comment on the Space Babies video but then I realized it was just comparing it to this episode so I just waited for this review. What a throw back to the 60's and not just the Beatles. I mean this feels like a Tom Baker crazy-idea-is-bigger-than-budget episode. Loved that Maestro started the show theme on the piano at end of the cold open. As you mentioned, lots of 4th wall breaks. I do hope there's a pay off with basically the whole cast one time or another staring directly at the audience, and seeing the Doctor scared, like unapologetically scared, was fairly rare, but we are seeing it regularly in these episodes. Like, is Russell T. Davies or Steven Moffat going to be the God of Story, and the season is a cutting critique on the lack of original thought in modern entertainment? Gee I wonder who the God of Time might end up being... I mean I really did like this episode a lot. The vibe of you think Space Babies was an odd topic well here's Jinx as the God of Music, watch as they just absolutely chew the scenery with such joy. Good times and a good review. Thanks!

Theories I've seen about the season are that, since the Doctor invited things of myth and superstition into the universe during Wild Blue Yonder with the line of salt, the Butterfly Effect has become real, which is how Ruby becomes a new species after stepping on a butterfly, and the Butterfly Effect also relates back to her mother abandoning her on Ruby Road. There seems to be new footage of that church in the trailer even htough there's a lot of reused footage, so it seems likely the Doctor will return to that church to figure out who Ruby's mother is.

I think, and this is just me guessing here, D&W takes place right after the events of Loki S2. Also, and probably, the different "feel" of the TVA it's due to creative choices made to differentiate the TV property from the Film IP.

I definitely agree with the dream lord that was a criminally underused character, we have seen the autons again in the season 5 finale and the ice warriors in season 10 for a one off but yes I am looking forward to Russel's interpretation of some of the Moffat monsters

Love the idea of the slitheen returning! We’ve seen them in the Sarah Jane Adventures (sidenote they pretty effortlessly fixed the flatulence thing in that show which is i think people’s main problem with them) and they worked pretty well for a kids show that wasn’t written by the DW showrunners, definitely could get some good stories with them for the main show, some good twists to be written there!

I love this design. It’s a beautiful combination of the War, 9/10th, 11th and 12th Doctor sonics with a hint of the masters laser screwdriver. The only part I’m not a huge fan of are the prongs on the sides in extended mode. So I’ll probably keep mine on collapsed mode. I can’t wait to pick it up though, it looks awesome 😎. Xx

I enjoyed Harrison Ford back as Indy and some of the action was fun, but overall I just felt like this was a disposable feeling kind of movie and the 3rd act really didn’t work for me. I’d be lying if I said I wanted to watch this again, unfortunately. Great review, Beth!
