I never gave a thought to the possibility that Mr B (a mere renter) was actually of a lower status than the Bennets, actual LANDowners. This also goes to show just how materialistic Mrs Bennet was; imagine accepting a lower status suitor for her daughter in exchange for money!

Such a nice pattern! It’s fits you so well! The way you handled the placket was genius! When you were thinking it through, I wondered if you had enough to piece it together so that you could strategically place the “piecing seams” behind buttons and/or at the waist. Just a thought! I would have been in the car immediately to buy a piece of tan or brown remnant at Walmart, or something from a thrift store!

That is a really cute dress! Great tip to look at the actual finished sizes when there is so much ease! One of the things I look at when trying to pick the right size is the back shoulder measurement. You picked the right size and your shoulder seams are sitting in the right place. It’s not the only thing to consider, but it can help guide your choice of sizes. It’s rarely listed so you have to just print the pattern and measure, but I find it really helpful.

Such a cute dress! The fabric pattern is adorably spooky yet refined. Perfect. I don't like buttonholes by machine either. That's mainly what keeps me from making a shirtwaist dress. Given the gracious ease of the Mood pattern, your adjustment for fewer buttons should work for me too. Mood patterns are ones I definitely pay attention to the finished measurements when deciding what size to cut out. They do tend to err on too much ease.

You're is so cute! I made one that should have buttons but i didn't have any in the right size. i just sewed the placket closed and haven't bothered to get buttons for months. @@PocketFullofPoseys same, but also the buttons for my dress would just be decorative at this point so I'm even less motivated to bother with them. I've got other things I want to make instead. The dress has been worn 15 times already without buttons a bit longer won't hurt. 🤣

For future fabric shortages (cos we all know it happens), why not make the button plackets in a completely contrasting fabric like a lot of mens expensive shirts do? Let the gape show gorgeous colour differences. Maybe not for the front placket if that's not your way, but why not the pocket? Or the under collar? Save the main fabric for the main pieces.
