Yea… Indie Animation isn’t the answer because is more of a media industry rather than mainstream. I think Firey has a good point, internet ruined everybody mental health. Sorry, but I don’t trust Indie anymore.

Leaving this here because he turned off comments on the wish video when people called out his bs, even though he was actively going into the comments to argue with people. Saying that 150+ BILLION dollar company had no way of making their 100th anniversary movie classically animated is laughable. And no, he genuinely belives there was just no budget available to make it happen because he was straight up "countering" people saying they wished (heh) Disney had spent more on the movie with rude ways of saying "it's not cost effective". Being smug with non-sequiturs must be doing wonders for this guys influencer career 🙄
@NoTheRobot4 күн бұрын
Well for starters I didn’t turn the comments off on the Wish video so idk what you’re going on about. All I said was that making a 2D film is a risk for Disney that they are not in a position to take right now. They’re still a business focused on infinite growth.

@@NoTheRobot the short where hes doing exactly the same not-listening counter argument that you're making. It's ridiculous that you can miss the point after I've made it so clear.
@NoTheRobot3 күн бұрын
Goodness. You made your point clear, but again, it's not the spending of their money that's the issue. They spent $200 million on Wish, they clearly have the money to spend. It's what they think they will make IN RETURN for that investment - Disney won't spend a dime if they don't think they're gonna get it back somehow. If you're Disney looking at the data, CG films return way more money than 2D animated films. I don't like it either, but execs are very short-sighted and only want to make as much money as possible. They don't care about how good the movie is - they want to spend as little as possible and make as much as they can in return (like Illumination does with the Minions movies).

Poorly explained. You shouldn't only look at the hips and lower body. The thing is that the foot that is in a semi dynamic position need to get balanced by placing it right under body center line. For women you usually draw a line straight down from lower body between hips and for men you draw a line from upper body right between collarbones. Collarbones work for women too, it's just that if a women have bigger hips the weight center is usually there. Tge line you drew down from that points need to be between legs or on one leg if you want a stable position.

This is just one example of what the animators think about, not the *only* thing. No need to be rude.

Great that they considered the Center of Gravity for the animation. I don’t think a lot of people know that in biological males the Center of gravity is in the chest. But for biological females it’s in the hips. So glad they took that into consideration for Gwen’s movements. Makes them feel more real.

I love 2D but acknowledge how difficult and budget unfriendly it can be. Since they are approaching this in a 3D style, I wish they had intensified the watercolor effects. Part of the reason I think it looks so flat is because it doesn't resemble watercolor painting techniques. Also, they could have made the framerate and animated movements similar to snow white or even brought the framerate way down with distortion to give it a sort of jilted drawn movement. There are so many ways to improve these renders within the 3D space while keeping flatter lighting. Scribbled/scrambled outlines for environment assets for a pencilled look, with different overlaid patterned textures for different materials. Sharper, flat or even unlit shading on heavily patterned clothes and foliage, and straight dark outlines for people (and/or hatched lighting). Heck, hand painted textures on the main characters or important environment props could have been so cool. There are definitely ways to have pushed this fairytale style more and drawn off nostalgia. Even just intensifying the shapes of models, like buildings and foliage designs similar to Sleeping Beauty. I think Disney is fully capable of pushing the visual envelope in this regard. And hopefully this Movie doesn't hinder that sort of risk taking.

Disney was never the only animation studio out there but there was a long period where it was truly the best. I'm not saying their movies were always my favorite but if you had to pick one animation studio... But your point in the end is very true. I think Disney Animation has stagnated because of corporate decisions and other animation studios are pioneering the artform now. This is true across the board for the entire company
