I know what you mean I demoed the def techs and with the built in sub in the tower are great and the bypoler were great for sound but when I heard the bowers it was like no other and the low end not great but good but then they paired them with the martin Logan dynamo 500 and there it was I'm gonna do a 5.2 for the best possible

the B&W 683 are good speakers with great balance and clarity, but If you want an exciting speaker with lots of grunt you should choose something else. :) they also need stupidly amounts of power when you get close to maximum volume levels, so you can't get away with a mid-level receiver if you want to get most out of them. my friend have PSB Image T6 and Onkyo TX-NR 808, I think a similar setup can be a good setup if your not a complete audiophile freak... ;)

Georg Kristoffersen thanks for the information. The local dealer showed me the 683's and the Paradigm monitor 11's. the 683's did not have much punch although sounded very elegant with classical music. 11's had a bit more low end.. which might come in handy while in Home theater mode along with my definitive sub. any thoughts? if I go with the 11's I hope it wont get muddy but on the other hand the lack of low end on the 683's with the sub... just might be the best combination. thanks.

From the research I've done, bi-amping will provide you little benefit, if anything at all.

the sound is clear as glass in the 683's. thight and responsive. the Dali Ikon 6 had a tiny bit of more bass overall,but it wasn't much... the thing that made me go for the B&W's was the hard tweeter sound on the Dali's and the much better midrange on the 683's. only reason the Dali's sounds better when the woofers move less, is that they lack a midrange and therefor the woofer's "muddens" the vocals... lol. :)

you have the XPA-5 behind the UMC-200? what do you have otherwise? cables etc. it's hard to tell, but I don't think it's the cabling, it shouldn't have THAT much impact to the sound... have you checked the polarity of the speaker cables and the signal cables? if one of the speakers get reversed signal the low end will equal out.

How are you getting so much low end out of the 683s, I have a similar setup but only difference is I am using umc-200 as my processor. Could it be my cabling?

you dont know anything about sound the more your bass is moving the more noise you will get and the other way around the less they move gives alot better sound

its a good pair of speakers but you will get more power from dali in the same prize class because they dont move that much when you crank it up the less moving the better sound

I don't have any experience with your speakers, but from what I've read I think you will get a speaker that is more dynamic, and has a better treble and midrange, but I have no idea about the bass. I'm powering my 683's with Emotiva XPA-5. :) 200 watt RMS. My friend's Onkyo 808 was too weak in the most demanding moments, so they need lots of power to shine at high volume with demanding bass sequences. ;)

This speaker/amp combo is one that i have been considering for a 5.1. i have yet to make a decision on which pre/pro to pair with the amp though. i feel the emotiva xpa-5 is the perfect amp for the 683's. did you try any other power sources before the xpa.-5 and if so is the sound quality MUCH better? do you have a surround set up or just stereo? i have also been kicking around the possibility of doing the cm8 or cm9's with the same amp with a pre/pro, and m1's for surrounds to start out.

These are very nice speakers no doubt but you are killing them. If you need bass buy cerwin vegas. When you push your speakers this much, you risk partially burning out the insulation on the coils- this will bring down impedance though your speakers may sound fine, and backfire to your amp , thereby burning it. The clip protection does not work well with low impedances

I don't think so... the 6990 runs ridiculous hot and the water system don't have any problems in regards to that. but I must admit that I may get a extra single 120mm radiator if I go all the way on my system later on, just to feel comfortable. :)

It's not damaging the woofer as long as it doesn't reach its mechanical limits. You will notice it if it does.
@Hillosipuli87
@Hillosipuli87 12 жыл бұрын
you can see how the woofer goes wildly in and out at some points. That's because bass frequency is in that point lower than that speakers tuning frequency. That is poison to the speakers especially when listening in great volumes.
@polobilenmin
@polobilenmin 12 жыл бұрын
Do you really think he will destroy his speakers just because he is playing some low frequencies that makes the woofer flex a little? The only way to destroy a speaker is to send distorted signals, which I doubt he is or pushing the the speaker to its mechanical limits. Can you hear these bottmoming out? no. He can play this day in and day out

You're right about the musical taste of the listener. I liken it to rather then eating shit with a plastic spoon, you eat it with a golden spoon! In the meantime there's always a chance you might develop a little class,and in so doing refine your musical taste! When you grow up and become more mature you'll understand this. This way you'll be able to join me in the righteous prick area of youtube! You ugly little toad!

I don't know why people think that enjoying bass or electronic music means we dont appreciate clarity. Why should they have to listen to poor quality sound from a poor quality speaker? The music being played was recorded at the same quality and possibly in the same studio as some of your music, why shouldn't this person be allowed to reproduce it well? How is it a waste of money? Perhaps the classy more tasteful thing for you to do, would be move on to the self righteous prick area of youtube.

I don't know why people go out and spend a bundle on fine speakers only to ruin them because they're obsessed with "That big bass sound" They should buy some big shitty DJ speakers instead, you know,the ones with 15 inch woofers,and huge crappy horns! The kind they use at those cheesy disco's that play that obnoxious pounding shit they call music.Why do they waste their money on fine instruments?No culture,no education,no taste,and no class!

@pudluvstatu hard to say, but each of the Arcam amps got 800VA transformer, so they do have access to lot of power. so if you bi-amp each of them it should be plenty. my biggest concern would be the low resistance and bi.amping when you push the speakers to the max. but the only way to find out is trying. :)

I'm just starting to get my set up together and so far I have Arcam alpha 10 and 10p amps. I was going to Bi amp but I'm concerned after reading some of the comments that I might not be able to do the 683s justice using 100w. Should I still buy them or forget about it, should I forget about bi amping and use the power amp to take it up to 200w? Thanks. oh and thanks for the vid.
