First: sorry for the crapy sound due to the microphone...
Second: B&W 683 is driven by Emotiva XPA-5 as power, and H/K AVR-355 as pre-amp.

Lol dude, disregard all the people saying you are disrespecting your speakers. It's exactly what they keep saying on my video too. They seem to not understand the point of the song Bass I Love You. Awesome speakers!

B&W are a QUALITY company that has made QUALITY loudspeakers for 50 years and even from the beginning the speakers had a reputation for being the best speakers of them all. the 600 series you're running are in the (almost) best speakers for all round listening from Jazz, to Classical music to Rap and Hip-Hop and even metal (listened to them myself) if the amp's max output power is under the designated max power handling of the speakers you're going to enjoy at least another 20 years of listening

:D such a good pair of speakers owned by a person who understands them as much as pig understands diamonds. "oh so cool, your set produces so much bass and pressure that I'm going crazy!"

the sound is clear as glass in the 683's. thight and responsive. the Dali Ikon 6 had a tiny bit of more bass overall,but it wasn't much... the thing that made me go for the B&W's was the hard tweeter sound on the Dali's and the much better midrange on the 683's. only reason the Dali's sounds better when the woofers move less, is that they lack a midrange and therefor the woofer's "muddens" the vocals... lol. :)

@Knr911 I think the A-S700 or the cambridge could do a decent job, but I would recommend a amp with at least 150 watt per channel at 8ohm. the B&W 683 deserves a powerfull amp, and they need one too perform at their potetional. I use the Emotiva amp because they are one of the best out there when you compare price/power. you can start with any amp you like, but make sure it got "pre-out". then you can expand your system with an power amp later if you should need it. :)

It's not damaging the woofer as long as it doesn't reach its mechanical limits. You will notice it if it does.

youtube knows how I ended up watching and then commenting on here but ive had a pair of 603s for over 3 years and i play synths and drum machines through them loud every other day... a bass driver failed just before the 3 year warranty ran out a new one only cost 60 quid for the complete unit.. i could have sent the old one back to be tested for a refund but i've kept it as an ashtray... sound for your pound b&w are mega...+ replacement tweeter domes are only 12 quid if your numb mate dints it

@torero34 I haven´t compared them my self, but what I have read on forums is that the CM9 is a little thighter and refined. some say that the 683 is more of an "party" speaker compared to the CM9. my best advice is to get a chance to listen too them. :)

@tonikins99771 They are greate all-arounder speakers for music, and the mid sound awsome! :) the bass has lots off punch, with enough power. And when you crank it up the last notches on the amp, that´s when the big smile comes on your face! ;) I would recommend a sub if you whant to play under 35Hz in movies, and music for that matter. But the 683´s suprised me with how much "thunder" bass they deliver! The room and placement is crucial! So if you have the chance, try them at home! ;)

@pudluvstatu hard to say, but each of the Arcam amps got 800VA transformer, so they do have access to lot of power. so if you bi-amp each of them it should be plenty. my biggest concern would be the low resistance and bi.amping when you push the speakers to the max. but the only way to find out is trying. :)

@itsruw LOL! it's over a year since i uploaded this movie, and the speakers still works like a charm! the 683's have long-throw elements that, for example, throws longer than the CM9 woofer-elements. I also explained that the volume is low and the bass is turned up. the 683 doesn't produce any spl levels at 10-25Hz! It's just a lot of movement ;) check facts before you tell other how experienced and wise you are...

@itsruw yeah, I´m really crazy! I´ve played this song once to record the woofers capability too the youtubers, and that makes me crazy! If you think that the speakers can´t handle this, you surly don´t know that much about speakers... I´t is´nt that loud either, I turned up the bass a little just for this song, and the woofers alone doesn´t produce that much SPL!

@audi200q Thanks for the input. I have an old pair of B&W and I'm in love with them. This brand is excellent. I'm very interested by the 683 speakers at the moment and I didn't know about this drop in impedance. I'm not into high-end electronics,l prefer a large watt reserve, so I've thought about a Yamaha A-S500 or A-S700, or a Cambridge Audio 650A. for these speakers. Do you think these models are a good choice & can they handle low impedance? Or what else would you suggest? Thanks!
@DarkStarProGamer
@DarkStarProGamer 11 жыл бұрын
These are very nice speakers no doubt but you are killing them. If you need bass buy cerwin vegas. When you push your speakers this much, you risk partially burning out the insulation on the coils- this will bring down impedance though your speakers may sound fine, and backfire to your amp , thereby burning it. The clip protection does not work well with low impedances

@audi200q Thanks for the response!: Just one more question please. Thanks for uploading this! Do the 683s dig bass response deep enough? I NEED powerful bass.Some say that b&w series are too bright, others say that 683 have powerful bass response. Whats your stance on it ? I'm hesitating with Klipsch RF-82. For Hi-Fi usage only. Rock, electronic music, funk & hip-hop. Thanks again!

Nice speakers. Hard to tell the sound from the recording and on youtube. Are you happy with the mids and bass? Is there a need for a sub? I'm considering getting these and am currently on the fence.

you can see how the woofer goes wildly in and out at some points. That's because bass frequency is in that point lower than that speakers tuning frequency. That is poison to the speakers especially when listening in great volumes.

@jovi176 ehm... are you sure you know what you are talking about? the Emotiva XPA-5 has an 1200VA transformer and is rated at 5x200 watts RMS @ 8 ohm (0.1% THD). there is plenty of power and the sound is very good live! :) well, okey, I could have had som more quality gear, but the B&W´s are not under powered with this amp! the recording is with a digital camera, Panasonic DMC-TZ5 and the microphone on this thing is crap! :P

This speaker/amp combo is one that i have been considering for a 5.1. i have yet to make a decision on which pre/pro to pair with the amp though. i feel the emotiva xpa-5 is the perfect amp for the 683's. did you try any other power sources before the xpa.-5 and if so is the sound quality MUCH better? do you have a surround set up or just stereo? i have also been kicking around the possibility of doing the cm8 or cm9's with the same amp with a pre/pro, and m1's for surrounds to start out.

I'm just starting to get my set up together and so far I have Arcam alpha 10 and 10p amps. I was going to Bi amp but I'm concerned after reading some of the comments that I might not be able to do the 683s justice using 100w. Should I still buy them or forget about it, should I forget about bi amping and use the power amp to take it up to 200w? Thanks. oh and thanks for the vid.

I don't have any experience with your speakers, but from what I've read I think you will get a speaker that is more dynamic, and has a better treble and midrange, but I have no idea about the bass. I'm powering my 683's with Emotiva XPA-5. :) 200 watt RMS. My friend's Onkyo 808 was too weak in the most demanding moments, so they need lots of power to shine at high volume with demanding bass sequences. ;)

@dj54321kl what kind of amplifier did you use? I´m sure of that you know that many amplifiers don´t handle the low Impetance(ohm) that theese speakers drop to when you play loud. that is often the reason for amplifiers to go into protect mode, because the poower consumption gets to high. most recievers are to small for the B&W 683. for example, Onkyo 809 isn´t powerfull enough, and that is a powerfull reciever when played in stereo. :)

Those speakers cant reproduce those frequencies anyway... Way too low, the speaker has to make a lot of excursion for nothing. But, its a good way to find out speakers maximum excursion ;-) And please dont say, its because of the youtube quality, i know such speakers, they just dont go that low...

@FRAMEWORK5 First: I´m not pushing the drivers over the limit, even if you say so. Second: these speakers will last a long time, and I wouldn´t buy speakers from someone that obviously doesn´t know much about them. Third: I’ve read another comment you have on youtube, and if you think that normal speakers shouldn´t play any lower frequencies than 150Hz, it only supports my second statement...

Do you really think he will destroy his speakers just because he is playing some low frequencies that makes the woofer flex a little? The only way to destroy a speaker is to send distorted signals, which I doubt he is or pushing the the speaker to its mechanical limits. Can you hear these bottmoming out? no. He can play this day in and day out

I don't know why people go out and spend a bundle on fine speakers only to ruin them because they're obsessed with "That big bass sound" They should buy some big shitty DJ speakers instead, you know,the ones with 15 inch woofers,and huge crappy horns! The kind they use at those cheesy disco's that play that obnoxious pounding shit they call music.Why do they waste their money on fine instruments?No culture,no education,no taste,and no class!

I don't know why people think that enjoying bass or electronic music means we dont appreciate clarity. Why should they have to listen to poor quality sound from a poor quality speaker? The music being played was recorded at the same quality and possibly in the same studio as some of your music, why shouldn't this person be allowed to reproduce it well? How is it a waste of money? Perhaps the classy more tasteful thing for you to do, would be move on to the self righteous prick area of youtube.
