There is NO WAY this was spontaneous. The only one other than Bruce that had a clue to play this was Gary.

i will never be able to prove this, but I have a long-held theory that Berton Averre, the lead guitarist for The Knack, used this song as inspiration for his solo in "My Sharona",

What a lovely song! Has he recorded it? Where is it? It has all the hallmarks of a Bruce original.❤❤❤❤❤

It was originally recorded as part of Born in the USA but never made it onto the album. The studio out-take was released on the 2003 compilation album "The Essential Bruce Springsteen". There is a 2015 re-release of that album but the songs on it are different. Only the original 2003 release contains the 3rd disc (called the bonus disc) which has this song along with many other hidden gems. It's a shame they don't include the bonus disc with the 2015 version, I had to find a 2nd hand copy of the 2003 one. P.S. You can find the studio out-take on KZbin if you search: "None But the Brave (Studio Outtake - 1983)". It's on his official channel.

This man is head and shoulders above any others including the beatles who were great songwriters but this guy alone writes, composes, sings, plays numerous instruments and above all sings live like his heart depends on it veins in his neck pulsate how his throat as stood it baffes me this, drive all night, stolen car cannot really be classed as songs their storys from the mans heart everytime he sings them🎤 since 1981 ive been blessed by his poetry, seen him 49 times live and god willing il hit the half century next summer in milan🎸 im from south london but feel i know Jersey just as much as i know my area🎸🎤😇😇

As a kid who grew up in Wildwood, New Jersey in the 1970's-80's Bruce, Clarence and the E-street band made the music that was my life. Before I could drive being a lifeguard and after dark walking our world-famous boardwalk for hours on end with my boys. Taking a girl on the beach or under the boardwalk. Then when I could drive cruising the strip in my 66 Mustang with my boys. It was a beautiful time.

"Thunder Road," is the first song on Side A of Bruce's third album, "Born to Run" (1975). "Badlands" holds the same position on his fourth album, "Darkness on the Edge of Town" (1978). These songs, and albums, are among the best that have ever been, or are ever likely to be. If unfamiliar with Mr. Springsteen's music, I can't think of a better place to start then these records. Oh, and he's not bad "live," either.

“just gimme the piano.. just gimme the professor… just give me *max hi-hat miscue* one more chance…” he was over this botched attempt 😂 once they kicked into the wrong tempo and draggy chord progression, there was nothing to do but end it, omg. good attempt tho.
