Don’t become a PSW find a college that has 2 years continuous studies meaning the program is 2 years but because it’s continuous you only study for 14 months 5 semesters back to back. Being a RPN is way better you don’t get paid peanuts, the wages of PSW is minimal compared to a RPN who works for a agency can easily make up to 60 a hour.

Actually I’m a psw for 23 years lately these health aides are taking our jobs for less money no training no education I’m not for that at all it’s not acceptable at all so we psw are left no hours of work replacements it’s a big problem and this should be addressed big time here in Canada 🇨🇦

I go above and beyond, I am doing my placement at sienna in Brampton Ontario My preceptor and another PSW make fun of me saying that I talk to much with the resident, or like I got into trouble for putting lotion on a resident back, the client was happy and comfortable, I am trying do hard to get through my placement, I want to say something to my preceptor, what could I say?

Hi Stephanie, I can relate to how you are feeling. Wanting to provide thorough care to each resident you interact with without upsetting the team. Raising the bar and standard we are accustomed to will make some friends and some enemies. Makes me happy to know there are people like you. If this is somewhere you want to work then try to find a balance between pleasing staff and residents. Find out what your preceptor wants to see from you and do it. If you don’t want to secure employment at that facility, get through placement without making too many ripples and be true to yourself. You have to live with your actions or lack of. Don't say anything, just do your job and I'd you have more than one client, don't spend most of your attention on that one. Give them all good attention. Share the love. Wherever you go people will always have something to say, just let it roll of your back or if it sounds valid, pay attention and make adjustments

Your experience in Philippines means ZERO here in Canada, I've seen Iranian and Colombian engineers and doctors working as janitors. My wife is a fully registered nurse in her country and she had to start from zero here in Canada. You will have to take the canadian PSW course for 1 year in a college.

I worked at my first job in LTC. I left after 3 months. I worked hard and fast but not when it came to tasks relating to the actual residents themselves. You’re very on spot about the cliques. I mostly was with those who wanted to cut corners and have more time to sit. I mean very important ‘corner cutting’. Things I couldn’t in good conscience go along with. So, bc I would take the extra moments to do the tasks that were being avoided or looked over, my coworkers saw me as a burden to work with. So, I left.

I understand what you mean when you slow it down to provide care for the residents, go their pace to meet their needs and make sure they feel respected and treated with dignity. Nothing enrages a corner cutter more than this. I think they are afraid the standard of care will be implemented and their comfort will be compromised so they bully the good workers. If everyone worked like you, a days work would be manageable for everyone. Thanks for watching and for your insight.

People pleaser originates in low-self esteem, or be great empath, with whose characteristic are attractive to demolic narssisist, that will finally drain your energy and burn your brain out if yo over spend your time and energy. just remember to set a deadline or draw clear boundary , do not cater yourself on someone's over indulgence or you are the only one get hurt.
