We did the Christmas Carol unit study in July this year to celebrate Christmas in July and to get back into the swing of school. We put up our tree and everything. It was great!

We finished our regular school stuff this past week. We are going out of town to surprise family with a visit before Xmas! Since we are going to be gone a few weeks we couldn't do big advent calendars, but I got us the brand new Exit the Book Advent. We love the Exit the games so it was perfect...and easy to take with us! We are all pretty worn out from our first semester, and so ready for a break and doing all the holiday things with grandparents! I imagine there will be lots of baking, some sewing projects, and tons of games.

My kids get an elf box on the weekend of thanksgiving. They get advent calendars the first day of advent. My kids get the toy advent calendars and the cheap trader joe chocolate ones. They get their advent devotional in their elf box. We do elf on the shelf. So that is what we call it an elf box. We decorate the tree one weekend and no particular day but usually a weekend because that is when we have time. They get their pjs in the elf box. When the elf leaves on December 24 th he leaves a Christmas Eve box. That includes the Santa plate, two books and treats hot coca mug. The Santa plate and mugs get reused each year. We actually read the same two books. The grinch and the night before Christmas. Sometimes there is a family game or a puzzle too. But low cost and mostly treats. We also celebrate Saint Nicholas day on December 6 th and be always brings kinder chocolates. This year we have actually the large kinder surprise eggs from Italy. We went to Italy this summer and I arranged to have the eggs and chocolate advent calendars shipped back to the USA in November. I also ordered kid er for my nieces and nephews. But these are the original eggs with the toy embedded into the hollow chocolate eggs

We put up our tree 2 weekends ago because my puppy was scheduled for surgery so I didn’t want her to get stressed out during recovery 🤷🏻♀️ we have always done advent calendars according to their interests…this year for my youngest who I homeschool we are doing the the 2 new advent kiwico ones for older kids (the train and village)

Love it! When my kids were younger, we did the Magic Christmas Box, which was basically a box with Santa on it that had a Christmas book or activity in it every day. It could be as simple as construction paper to make paper chains or sometimes it was a small board or card game. It got hard to keep up with as they got older and also we moved internationally a few years, but it’s still a fond memory for everyone. We’ve done the KiwiCo advent calendars and those are pretty fun but I have three girls and started to be challenging for them to do the same one together but it would have been way too much for them each to have their own. The cost of advent calendars can be cost prohibitive, but last year I won a gift card to Christianbook around this time and got each girl their own- one Lego, one National Geographic Science of Magic, and a really cool Playmobile animal one for my youngest. It was fun but I think we all felt overwhelmed by end of the season and this year we just got the Exit calendar to do every day as a family. We got those Target pajamas too! I used to wait until Christmas Eve to do our pajamas but last year we did then the day after Thanksgiving and it was so much fun to wear them all season long- I just have to make sure I know where they all are on Christmas Eve for pictures!

Our Christmas starts today (Black Friday), we went to a tree farm and cut down our tree this morning. Tomorrow we'll get the tree in the house and decorate it while we watch a Christmas movie and have pizza and cookies. Then the next morning my kids will wake up to their Christmas kick-off boxes under the tree. In the boxes I'll but their new Christmas PJs, our gingerbread house kit, a couple little treats -hot chocolate, a little bit of candy, and this year I got a cookie making kit, they also will get their dressy and casual Christmas clothes, and our crafts we'll do throughout the month, everything to "kick-off" out Christmas season.

Hi Jessica! This year I got me three children a puzzle advent calendar for the first time, so excited. We usually do one small gift or a Christmas Eve box/bag for our children. This year, I'm really trying to keep things on the lighter and more meaningful sid, especially because they recieve gifts from two other places!

I just bought the audiobook of the advent carols countdown, it’s great. Of course, I listened to the first one already, it’s my favorite song, the Holly and the Ivy. The advent calendar one is great as well.

I feel you math. I hired an online math tutor for Right Start math. I am homeschooling an only daughter too. It is better that I am more of the cheerleader for math.

My youngest is 10=11 soon, my eldest kid is 21.. so it’s a single kiddo scenario. Her friends are either through her travel team, or ones she met at homeschool activities, like field trips or clubs. They mainly talk on messenger kids while they all play video games together, or meet for park days a few times a month.

Great video. Helping our young ones overcome their math phobia is so important. One of the games we use within our math club is DOMATICS, a domino styled math game. The students find it fun but most importantly helpfully in improving their math

I once had a mom of multiples tell me I should be able to come over and help her with something because I "can't be that busy with just one." You gotta put other people's opinions out if your decision making, everyones got opinions. I do not socialize with that mom any longer.

Although I have 4 kids homeschooling my youngest (who is a 6th grader) is like having an only child…his sisters are 29, 24, and 16🥺 the youngest of the girls goes to PS, so it’s just him and I all day 🤷🏻♀️

Everyone: OMG, you can't homeschool, your son's going to be so antisocial! Me, a low-social-battery introvert with a child who could make friends with a rock: ...you promise? 😂 He's in 4H, youth group, 4H Hippology Team, wrestling, cooking classes, a homeschool group through the library, and a gaming social group with homeschool and public school kids. He socializes better than I did at his age as a public-schooled, only child. 😂

Storytime at a library or an art class maybe? Those tend to draw in the quieter children.

You could also try and see if noise canceling headphones or loop earplugs help him - some sensory support could help

This is my child with friend's little siblings. I try and have the older friend only over for a playdate at our quiet home. That takes time though to get to know the family so they won't have to bring everyone over. Also, I let the older kids play outside or in my child's room (door open) and the mom and I chat while I have Magatiles and little wooden toys in the living area for the littles. Also there are some great child earplugs that help.

I don’t force it. We do field trips with other homeschoolers in my area & then I meet up for playdates at the park with them. Sometimes she plays with the other kids and sometimes she doesn’t. I don’t force the interactions but they are there if she wants. On one of the field trips she stuck by an elderly volunteer the whole time but on others she find a kid that she relates to. Sometimes she just sticks with me. I always try to think about her through my eyes. Sometimes I feel like socializing, other times I don’t. Same for them.
