This is my personally favorite program, although I admit it's very hard to choose! His Cup of China 2014 skate, after being injured so severely while practicing his program minutes before the competition began, always speaks strongly and deeply to my heart. Although it's extremely hard emotionally to watch him fall several times in a row while trying to land his beautiful jumps, it's such a TRIUMPH when he does land two; but most of all, it speaks to me about his total dedication to skating and his heart's deep fierceness, his manly beauty within that is so hard to describe with any words. It's that core of his soul that only he and God knows, and only he experiences. We can always see it all over him, because he is so expressive! As hard as we try, I think we all find ourselves at a loss for words when we try to describe him, or even our feelings towards him. It's something I've never experienced before in my 70 years. Watching him perform his figure skating combines so many things, mostly in him, but some also in me, the viewer, that it boggles my mind and heart. It's not that I'm watching someone I know, someone I care for-- but someone I've never met and will never even get to see in person in my lifetime, yet he provokes so much emotion within me. And on the other hand, he's cute, handsome, funny, smart, capable, exceptionally kind and respectful to all, so charismatic! I wish someone could explain this experience to me! Although I'm very thankful for these many videos which include so many parts of his young life, his home life and family, and all of his competitions and judging experiences, I feel this eerie sadness-- probably partly because he's retired, so no more exciting competition videos with gold medals; and partly because I feel certain I will never know him, even though I feel like I've learned so much about him, and partly because he's already retired and gone into the next parts of life with his new wife, and many different career- type aspirations, which is a completely different lifestyle than he's had until now, what sailors and others call Uncharted Waters. But Sailors have experience, as he has also gained from his many and various interviews and public appearances, from working with coaches, choreographers, musicians, famous people, also big corporate sponsors, and from his generous giving back to his community, his fans, to Japan!
