From what i have been told, the thing that kills the plastic gears is the wheel coming off the ground while under power and then speeding up and coming back into contact with ground. Metal gears are available but can be noisey hence the preference of the nylon gears.

Possibly, or just dry grease/overloading. metal gears wear the hub itself, which is expensive.

Whilst technically its a bad thing to do, if you have enough technical knowledge and know the exact reason for the depleted cells its something I have done many times. I have many items and batteries that are left to deplete naturally through lack of use sometimes over a few years using a regulated PSU set approximately 10% above the battery voltage is enough to fool a regulated charger to switch on. I remember years ago when you could get unregulated chargers that gave out a charging voltage and current regardless of the battery state.

I am having a problem with a similar Hyena battery and system where the battery seems fully charged but the display/app only registers 1% charge. As the bike is proprietary Halfords they suggest a new battery, if that fails then a new display and if that fails then a new controller making the repair cost more than a new bike. I am currently in contact with Hyena in China as I think the problem is firmware related and well Halfords are just sales agents. If I get a satisfactory conclusion I will post the result.
@EbikeRepairs2 күн бұрын
Sounds like a software problem!
@royboy68902 күн бұрын
@@EbikeRepairs Had an update yesterday after submitting more info to China. Must admit they are pretty good. Evidently the info I gave them does indicate an issue they know about on some bikes with a corrupted firmware that they have an update for. Unfortunately the 1% prevents the update using the app and needs doing with their service software requiring a dongle that would cost £160 or find a dealer that uses the Hyena system which I will try tomorrow. Another indicator for them of the problem is as well as registering 1% the battery charge cycle for some reason shows 255.

A simple bearing that sits on the motor. So it needs to be removed and remade, or a new one of the same type should be converted into a high-speed one. So that it maintains a speed of 10-20 thousand revolutions. A simple bearing cannot do this. @@EbikeRepairs

Touch voltage with dry skin is 50v, realistically you can get a shock from ANY battery if you have wet skin (9v to the tongue for an example) I was unlucky enough to touch my 32s (144v) pack terminals once, and I made sure to never ever do it again lol

Always wanted to see inside one of these! Thank you. Rather than shelling out the €622 for the battery/controller, might it be possible to replace the controller with a KT aftermarket model and recell the battery? I appreciate connectors may need to be changed…and finding a controller small enough to fit into that area may be impossible…it’s just that I’ve been running a DIY range extender on mine for years and that was also supposed to be impossible due to the CANbus…would appreciate your thoughts, and thanks for a great channel!
@alanmorgan138922 күн бұрын
As you probably know, KT Controllers are designed to only communicate with KT displays so even if you could find one to fit inside the existing Mahle x35 battery case, it won't communicate with the iWoc display. The next big question to answer is whether the Mahle X35 motor is a 'standard' sensored hub motor that would work with a KT based system? If the answer were yes and I was faced with a 'broken' X35 battery and didn't want to shell out the money for a replacement (700 GBP?) then I'd look to scrap everything Mahle except the motor, recell the battery with a KT controller, fit a KT display and independent PAS and speed sensor (unless there's a way to utilise the Mahle ones?). All in all quite a technical challenge and not for the feint hearted.
@yakoridesagain22 күн бұрын
@@alanmorgan1389 That is exactly what I was planning Alan. I suspect the first gen X35’s are rather more amenable to ‘alien’ components, as a friend tested his suspect motor by swapping in a Swytch bike motor and it worked. Losing the Iwoc would be a benefit frankly though I do hate clutter on the bars…I’ve played with conversion kits before and I’ve been itching to re-cell with higher capacity cells…I do like long rides!
