Im rewatching the series now and I believe the reason the Major looks so oddly at the Tachikoma’s development is because it reminds her of an innocence she gave up long ago. Under all her powerful commanding behavior, she is still that little girl who couldn’t control herself. I think thats another reason why she keeps her team so in order.

Human brain cells are actually more digital than the tachikoma is letting on I dont understand the thought about 0. Is it that 0 is the result when any two mathematical expressions that are identical are subtracted from each other, so the number 0 is nothing other than an equals sign in disguise? Why would that mean that "digital" and "analog" beings are any different?

So, basically... The Tachikoma has come to the conclusion that there cannot be an absence of presence in all things. Conceptually, the "soul" as we know it is in truth the presence of a consciousness beyond our physical selves. The kicker is that for as many mechanical components that we replace our biological components with, the "soul" is irreplaceable and therefore cannot be altered beyond its original state. This "soul" also gives us "individuality" or, in computer-speak, a more "binary" existence. We are one and all within ourselves, defined not by our mutual coherence as a species, but in spite of it. Our ability to work as a whole or a single unit is due to our individuality enabling flexibility in focus. While we are an inherently social species, there is zero reason for us to rely heavily upon each other and that, in fact, is our greatest attribute. For a Tachikoma, which is connected via a wifi network on steroids, the concept of individuality is likely a foreign concept since all thoughts and processes are collectively considered and agreed upon. The premise of a "self" or "soul" which would in practice permit a Tachikoma to act of its own accord is absent here. However, as this Tachikoma has demonstrated (and throughout this episode so do its peers) , the potential for individuality to develop in a machine isn't impossible. When enough information is constantly shared amongst a collective consciousness, there will inevitably be a divergent series of codes that are taken in by a single individual in that consciousness which will propagate further. Think of it like sharing your DNA with another individual to create a new life. Inevitably, all that shared information results in a life form coming into existence. Batou's confusion is understandable, though. For him, these deeper concepts are as normal as breathing and earn about as much acknowledgement. For a Tachikoma that has suddenly attained individuality, though, these concepts are an overflow of information that cannot be properly articulated in a meaningful manner. And yet, perhaps through sheer force of "will," they manage to articulate the concepts in a manner that is both coherent and comprehensive. Batou simply cannot fathom that a mere machine designed solely for combat is having an existential crisis in front of him.

Miss you Dah. My family in Ireland. My family that came to the new world because of the potato famine. Because of the British. My family who joined the service after getting into the harbor from Ellis island. To my family that was miners in aspen Colorado that now rest in Ute cemetery. I’ll be with you soon. When I think of you I see your blue eyes dirty clothes, the cold of the mountain the warmth of the house. I’ll sleep in the cold dirt under the golden trees with you soon.

basically hes saying that no matter what you cant multiply or divide by 0. but you can divide or multiply any integer between zero and one as well as add from . that's what delineates life from non-life. soul from void. 0 cannot be created or destroyed. it always was and always will be. 0 is nothing, but at the same time infinite. (Plato would be so proud) we are all part of 0 zero because all values start at 0, even though they take on a context and life of their own. which perfectly syncs with the shows theme of the "stand alone complex" . total fractal brilliance that could only come out of japan.

It sounds like Tachikoma is saying that God is a function that unites all things in a way that makes definite and specific things indistinguishable from one another Which maybe even serves as an explanation for what a "heaven" could be is just returning to zero, and becoming one with eternity?

If a robot ever asked me what it's like to have a ghost I'd simply explain it's like respiration (a process it can have data on but not execute), and base it on spirit's etymology.

The real humor of this scene is that idiots won't grasp that the tachikoma used proof by contradiction- derived from the reductio ad absurdum, to argue its point.
