I saw the words "Irish" and "Death" and "Poem" and thought, I'm for that! This did not disappoint.

Any fan of this will love Eisteigh Liomsa Sealad (Listen To Me Awhile) by Afrocelt Soundsystem. There are a number of songs with this name, but as I understand it this one is about Seán Ó Duibhir a' Ghleanna (Seán O'Dwyer of the Glen), and the much later defeat of Michael Dwyer in the 1798 rebellion against the English, all linked by the holy mountain Sliabh na mBan, a place of many passage-graves or sidhe, gateways to the underworld, and well spring of Irish culture, and shelter of geurilla fighters

I'm really moved for the song and for the text. I'm a spanish literature teacher (sorry for my english), and this song and litlle study helped me a lot to understand better the born of national feelings in the XVIII/XIXth centuries. I have tranlated it to spanish for my students from the english version. Thank you very much.

I sigh through Limerick, Connacht and Clergy with nostalgia, M'osna trí Luimnigh, Connacht agus Cléir le cumha, To Cork the fleet, and over two waves go away, Go Corcaigh na loingeas, agus thar tonnaibh dhá dtéinn de shiúl, Our alien sculptor, the hero's successor 'got fame, Ár gcróbhaire choimhthígh, fear ionaid na laoch 'fuair clú, To the sanctuary of luige and all the universe in the fresh, Go tearmann luige agus na cruinne go léir san úir, In the fresh from San úir ó In the fresh from San úir ó You had fame and dominion from the glorious King, Clú agus ceannas bhí agat ón Rí nglórmhar, Which was on your captives without the knowledge of the king of a province, A bhí ar do ghacaibh i ngan fhios do rí cóige, King George has no country or city under his banner Níl tuath ná cathair fé bhrataibh ag Rí Seoirse Nor is the lack and desolation of their homes ever sad Ná gur dubhach an t-easpa is a mbailte go síorbhrónach Sad from Brónach ó Sad from Brónach ó It's sad and tired from Ceachainn to Léim Lárach, Is brónach atuirseach ó Cheachainn go Léim Lárach, And Banba is worried from Cashel to Béal Bearnais, 'S is buartha Banba ó Chaiseal go Béal Bearnais, The Caribbean lands are on fire without a glimmer of joy Tá dúthaigh Charibre ar lasadh gan scéimh áthais It is my ability to say Rath Chana that our strong hero has been lost. Is mo chumhasa Ráth Chana gur cailleadh ár laoch láidir. Strong from. Láidir ó. Strong from. Láidir ó. Our model was the strongest and most agile alien, Ba láidir choimhthígh ár gcuspa is ba leathan lúfar, Riders of the societies, may the earth tremble for you, A mharcaigh na gcumann, go gcritheadh an talamh fútsa, Your hometown was not afraid of laws or clichés, Ní raibh eagla dlithe ná clipeadh ar do bhaile dhúchais, But it was a friend like Oscar who put the spoils behind Ach id charaid mar Oscar a chuireadh na creacha ar gcúlaibh Black from Dubh ó Black from Dubh ó The skies are dark black under clouds, Is dubh dorcha faoi scamallaibh tá na spéartha chughainn, And there is no shortage of hills and black mountains 'S níl easpa ná uireasa ar chnocaibh ná ar shléibhte dubha But in the war of the kings it was often the heir Ach i gcogadh na ríthe gur mhinic an t-eirleach súd You are my sigh through Limerick, characteristically in the fresh air. Is m'osna trí Luimnigh tusa go tréith san úir.

People who like this, should try Eisteigh Liomsa Sealad - which I think is about the 1798 Irish rebellion, and the holy mountain Slabh na Ban. Afrocelt soundsystem recorded it to music

Miss you Dah. My family in Ireland. My family that came to the new world because of the potato famine. Because of the British. My family who joined the service after getting into the harbor from Ellis island. To my family that was miners in aspen Colorado that now rest in Ute cemetery. I’ll be with you soon. When I think of you I see your blue eyes dirty clothes, the cold of the mountain the warmth of the house. I’ll sleep in the cold dirt under the golden trees with you soon.
