I wonder if you were actually watching the video. You understood the song, but video has such a powerful ending that it doesn't seem as sad. When she stands up and is belting out the song ... he is squirming in is seat but everyone else is watching and listening to her. In that moment, she symbolically "kicks him to the curb". It's an excellent video.
