Agreed! Healthcare system is a mess. The icy roads are unbelievable. I am in Edmonton and the roads are dangerous when it snows.

Some tips for you. Have a winter accessory bag, place spare kids and adults mittens, gloves, touques, neck warmers and so-on. I always have one by my front door. That way, if you are on your way out and the kids are missing one thing or the other, you can easily reach into that bag and find a replacement for them. I also have extra pairs in my car. As for stores to shop in Calgary. Its the same complaint. I've made peace with the fact that Calgarians are not fashionable people. They are first thinking of comfort and staying warm, considering that 8 months out of 12 months in a year is in horrible cold weather. I find good stuff at Winners and i'm partial to HM. For work outfits, I go to Reitmans, Rickis when on sale and Costco(their work pants have given me the best fitting and they feel warm too).

You need to share a cow to have the real taste. The store ones are very expensive and the special parts they sell do not taste good. I always advise newcomers with children not to rent a condo. Someone didn't take my advice but later agreed with me. A basement is way better because it's not as restrictive as a condo. We started in a basement 12 years ago. The detached or semi detached houses are well insulated and, to some extent, sound proof. If we blast music through our living room ceiling speaker, we do not even hear it outside, except our windows are open. For the winter you are very correct. There is no way to explain it except it's experienced.

I havent gotten used to the weather even though I have been in Calgary for more than 15 years I also didn’t enjoy the beef until I started cow sharing. It tastes exactly like home with the freshness and the burnt ponnmo… so yummy. I get beef from a Nigerian lady who will even deliver to you.. yes .
