Oh my God you didn't prune your mulberry tree! That looks really bad.

Just found your video in Jan 2025. I'm currently growing a 2 year old Meyer Lemon in my house (zone 7a, PA) with one huge lemon in its first production year! I'm psyched! It didn't get outside at all last summer, it lived the whole year in my east facing dining room window. Is it essential that it gets outdoor time in summer, or can it continue to be happy where it is right now? I have no greenhouse or south facing windows, so this is the best I can do.

I saw my therapist yesterday. She talked me out of it. For this video I wanted potting mix tips. After 45 minutes I felt bereft and confused. I'm calling a hotline now for help before suicidal inclinations take over again.🙃

A long handle spade works really good on soil that is difficult to dig with a foot. We made custom ones with 1" hollow pipe, so we were able to get it heavy enough for a good hit but not so heavy it destroys your shoulders. For everyone else just get the ones with the long wood handles.

Thank you, I was looking for a such experience as confirmation for my observation about casto bean tree growing so well in my area. Will plant these on a new orchard without irrigation the next January. Hopefully it will withstand the summer heat and sun.

Love this. Thankyou for all Of your wonderful inspirational videos Jay. I live in Palm Springs, Calif where the climate is almost identical as Phoenix. I don't ever see any videos from anyone in the Coachella Valley who is either interested or has any experience in creating their own high density living kitchen on their own land. But I've been truly blessed to have stumbled upon & found people like you who are highly experienced. I've been watching videos from you, Shamus, Jake & John for about 9 years now getting loads of education on how to create an edible food forest right here on my property. Some losses, but many wins. Driving down my street I can honestly say my property stands out more than beyond any other desert property. I have people slowly driving by just to stare & take into their souls what they are seeing with their own eyes so they too can see & imagine the possibilities. All of you have inspired me, as I in turn want to inspire and educate others. Bless you all.

4:47 *Jay Barringer: Black Mulberry or even purple has about 40 times as much (Chalcone Synthase Enzyme) which is responsible as a catylast at making (Flavonoids & Anthocyanin) pigments. With (1/40) the enzyme from the roots, the genetics can't make the pigment. Genetics haven't changed. The gene for the (Chalcone Synthase Enzyme) is epigenetically methylated in the branch, because it's not root. If you airlayed it, the part above the air layer would probably make dark berries again.*

I have a multigrafted mulberry tree and this year I’ve decided to wait and prune it AFTER fruiting. I know the Jan’s Best Dwarf Everbearing branches will grow again and produce a second crop after the pruning. But is that also true of other varieties like Shangri La, Black Pakistani, and Oscar? Either way, seems like I will get maximum production by waiting to prune AFTER the spring harvest. And it SEEMS like mulberry trees are resilient enough not to much mind WHEN I prune. But I’m still pretty new to mulberries so that’s just a guess! Anyone have experience with pruning the different varieties after the spring harvest?
