Won Kukk Lee's Tang Soo Do which he was the first to use that name, was a different style of the Moo Duk Kwan version of it and it later became what we now know as Taekwondo. He influenced both the WT and ITF style
@kputala2 ай бұрын
@jameskrten1164 Won Kuk Lee taught Shotokan Karate when he returned from Japan in 1944. He began combining it with the Taekyun he had learned in his youth. Lee claimed that Hwang Kee studied under him for a time reaching green belt level, something Hwang Kee adamantly denied. HK says he learned the forms from a Shotokan book written by Funakoshi and adopted them into TSD. Early Chung Do Kwan and Traditional Tang Soo Do are VERY similar arts, and I choose to believe HK did study under Lee before adopting the TSD banner. LEE stopped heading the CDK in 1950 and it was taken over by Duk Sung Son. In 1955 CDK fell in line under the TKD banner and it adopted the poomse and other TKD forms. Hwang Kee and his Moo Duk Kwan stayed with their original teachings until he evolved into Soo Bahk Do. Early CDK and Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan are almost identical. I achieved my 2nd Dan in CDK and 5th in TSD. They are sister arts evolving from and strongly influenced by Shotokan roots, but grew to be very different.

I go in this Saturday a 7.30 am and I ain't looking forward to it, last year it was a hernia op and I remember that night before feeling and then the morning you get up for hospital, it's unpleasant you wish you were doing something else. Anyway you reap what you sow and I require two knees and a total left shoulder replacement, 2025 the year of pain, all down to decades of hill running and mixed martial arts and various other activities I took to excess. However you have cheered me up by making the pain part sound not too bad, I'm used ignoring pain due these various activities, I just wish I had listened to the pain throughout the years and maybe I wouldn't be in this mess where the only good joints are my elbows. To be honest the thing that gives me most concern is the fact that I'm in an age group where the prostate swells up even further due to morphine based pain killer and your unable to pee and the sting in the tail is a catheter. Your lying there with this leg just been operated on and the nurse says no it's not the knee that sore part it's this as she holds a piece of plastic tubing and attempts sticking it in somewhere it was never designed to go..
@kputala2 ай бұрын
@Insolation1 Yeah, martial arts definitely takes it's toll. Like you, I was expecting excruciating pain, but even when the nerve block and all wore off, it was tolerable. I used the ice machine regularly and rarely had to use the stronger pain meds. My surgery was outpatient, so I didn't have a catheter or anything. Woke up in recovery, had to walk with the walker to the bathroom, pee, and I was wheeled to the car and sent home. Therapy started in home the next day, 3 days a week for 2 weeks, but I worked it regularly 4-5 times between 7am-7pm, icing and elevating in between. It's not easy, but nowhere near as bad as I imagined. I pray yours goes as well and that you have a complete recovery. 🙏

Sleeping is not the best at first in bed so a couple hours and back to the recliner. Sleep is getting a little better in bed now though. My tailbone is sore from setting in the recliner so much. So now setting a thick pillow under me which has helped. Defiantly doing the exercises twice a day and always pushing a little. Therapy is twice a week and doing well there also. This was my second knee replacement so hoping I'll be good to go by next year. The pain before was miserable!

Can't imagine 20+ The one thing I've always heard from others that had it done before I had mine was,....I wish I'd hadn't waited so long. I took that to heart and had it done ASAP. I was 55 and first DR told me I was too young. Next Dr a year later , did them. I had both done 2 months apart. That was nearly 6 years ago (Sept & Dec 2018) and I'm betting your will say the same thing. I do a lot of walking since as I worked construction. Just retired this year and still go for walks every morning, pain free. But this video guy is right. Need to do PT. I couldn't straighten my knees after surgery but after PT I was good. The pain is bad the first two weeks but after that, it gets better. I didn't use all my pain meds either but especially that first week, I took em right at the recommended time lol. First week I had oxycontin, then the weaker oxycodone. Bruising is pretty bad too but in the end,....all is good, you will be amazed. @kputala3 ай бұрын
@MarilynMiller-dy4cx Hello Marilyn! Good question! I never thought about how I described it. I have an Ossur cryotherapy machine, and it was set up on a tray table next to my recliner. That became my icing station (still is!), and while my feet were elevated, a recliner doesn't elevate to the point where the feet are above the heart. This allows fluid to drain from the legs. I have a 45-degree wedge that I use lying on the bed, so my feet are higher than my heart. My bed is also adjustable, so I can go even higher. That's what I meant by elevating the legs. I would usually do the exercises, elevate, then ice. Great question!
