No offense, but I like the conventional log splitter with a ram mounted to the excavator boom better.

Nice job brother. It’s nice to see a stone mason take his time and not slap a bunch of stone on and call it a day. Not much pride left with the newer breeds of masons😂

oh wow. I have an old fireplace in the home we bought this past year. looks like there is no way im getting the dampner replaced in my firebox lol. It looks like its installed just like this one. Just want to do a vented gas log set but may go with ventless.

Northern Vermont ,rust capitol of the Northeast here. Been using B&C oil for over 25 years and never looked back. Tip, best time to apply is in the spring and summer, because the warmer temperatures accelerate the corrosion process and the oil sprays and wicks better as the metal expands from heat. I just use B&C oil with grease or with wax after heated in a presto crock pot. Spring time is the best time to apply your mixture..Be sure to apply the B&C oil right out of the container into all inner and enclosed box sections of the frame and sheet metal.

Man I don’t know. I’ve never owner Mucks but I don’t feel like my DryShods held up very well. I’ve had them for a few years but I don’t feel like I’ve worn them that hard and now they have a hole near the big toe. I have many other non-rubber boots that have given me much better service life.

Why would you waste your time an energy to build something that won't even split a 6 inch log? A 1 inch cylinder? Common sense should have prevented you from embarking on this project. I guess some people have more brains and common sense than others. 1 fernel of popcorn out of 5 kernels. Not worthy.

DryShod does not seem to offer a warranty to USA customers which concerns me buying a pair of their boots. They are expensive. The Canadian website for DryShod offers a 1 year warranty but not the USA...Waiting to hear from them about this.

If you fold your thumb all the way back van angle your wedge out of 45° angle or so from your mounting plate on your thumb angled towards the bucket then you should be able to have your thumb fully retracted and not have to worry about the relief valve Edgar thumb will be fully retracted

Glad to hear they may be making a recovery in some places. Here in NJ they are near extinct I think as I haven't seen a single one for 5 years of looking amongst the gazillions of Black Walnut we have.

Gosh, pecans are so much easier, but yeah, I know they don't grow anywhere near that far north. Glad to hear the butternut species is recovering from blight.

Useless as a wood splitter. Use a hammer drill instead

Still achieved something being the worst log splitter on the planet. Quite an achievement. I would have expected it to perform better than that to be honest and was worth a try. Just making one out of an old forklift should work pretty well I hope. Would have alot more force than the grab.

Sure thing bud! Take your time even if it takes 2 days. try to get the joints down to 1/4"-3/8" soak the firebrick enough that you have some time to work them but not do much they're saturated and most importantly don't let the back inclined wall come in too early where you have to go back rearward to meet damper opening. Any questions let me know I'll help if I can.
