Best setup video I’ve seen yet. I do have one question. Is there any way that you can send the mixed signal from the mixer directly to the video camera of an iPhone/ipad pro?
@michaelcasey21946 күн бұрын
Thank you! On the 10-channel ZED's the Mixed audio shows up as channels 3 & 4 of a multirack interface in iOS. Whether you can access these channels will vary by which app you're using. The only app i know for certain can access channels 3 & 4 of a multitrack interface is Garageband. If the app you're using doesn't support input track selection on an audio device, you may need something like an iRig pro to get the audio into your iPad or iPhone.

Do you know why I am not getting FX to my phone? It’s coming through my headphones when I speak through the mic but it’s not coming through to my phone. Just a dry mic
@michaelcasey21942 ай бұрын
The little square buttons in the center of the mixer will determine the routing to USB outputs. If you're using the ZEDi8, select L-R as your output source. That will have all mixed channels including the dry mics and FX. If you're on a ZEDi10, the L-R mixed outputs can only be routed to USB outputs 3 & 4 so you'll need a multitrack capable app like GarageBand to access them. USB outputs 1 & 2 on the ZEDi10 will always be a direct dry output.

Does SQ sounds better than QU? And does it have better halls, plates for vocals?
@michaelcasey219410 ай бұрын
There are a number of improvements in the SQ over the Qu class of mixers that will affect the sound including higher quality preamps and a 96kHz sample rate versus 48kHz on the Qu series. The Qu and SQ series share many of the same FX processors such as SMR reverb, stereo delay, ADT doubler, chorus, flanger, and phaser. Where the SQ really shines is the ability to purchase upgraded dynamic effects such as Dynamic EQ, Multiband Compression, de-essers, models of vintage compressors, and tube stage preamp models.

Can you tell me why Ch 1 & 2 are noisy with line signals like synths?
@michaelcasey219411 ай бұрын
Try toggling the Line/Inst or PAD switch on the input. In most cases with a synth this will need to be engaged. It's also common for noise to be introduced due to cabling issues. Be sure to connect a mono line input with a shielded cable to each the 1/4 jacks on the ZED mixer. Balanced TRS or unbalanced TS cables should be fine. If you're getting noise on the USB interface, that can sometimes be attributed to a computer's power supply. If using a laptop, try disconnecting the charging cable and see if the noise goes away. If you're still having issues, I'd suggest reaching out to A&H support - www.allen-heath.com/support.
@jeromemunchenberg643811 ай бұрын
@@michaelcasey2194 thanks for the reply. I do not have USB connected, so no noise there! I only use high-quality shielded TS cables. For audio to be heard from the synth I need to engage the Instrument button on Ch 1 & 2 and the Line/Pad button on Ch 3 & 4... However, regardless of the synth used, Ch 1 & 2 produce hum. I wonder if the fact Ch 1 & 2 have a Class-A FET for Hi-Z is the culprit... A&H support have responded to my support request with the statement "If you are experiencing noise when using DC-powered instruments on the Hi-Z inputs on M1 & M2, you may need to deploy a DI stage for each of the ins."... However, I don't know what kind of DI is required - active or passive? With/without pad? Are there other alternative solutions?
@michaelcasey219411 ай бұрын
@@jeromemunchenberg6438 I have not experienced that issue myself, but my instinct would be to try a passive DI just because a lot of the active options have FET or other preamplifiers themselves.

With this mixer can I record my voice and export in Mp3 or Wav format for home recordings?
@michaelcasey2194 Жыл бұрын
Great question. The ZEDi series mixers are made to interface with a computer and software via USB - they do not record files directly. You can certainly use this mixer paired with a computer to record your voice. Most DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software is capable of exporting to MP3 and WAV. For a budget-friendly option, check out Audacity which is free and open-source.

Hi, Can you explain why the Fx to Mix control under ST2 appears differently labelled in the manual (p3) ?
@michaelcasey2194 Жыл бұрын
Great question, you are very observant! The user guide is for both the ZEDi-10 as well as the ZEDi-10FX. The drawing on page 3 reflects the ZEDi10 in which case ST2 is simply a stereo input channel. On the "FX" model, the FX to Mix serves a dual purpose - it can send the effects return to the main mix, or if the onboard effects are not in use it can send the ST2 inputs to the main mix.
@jonathan_bass Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have the ZEDi-10FX model. Given the USB interface shares ST2 (and is the source when no 1/4" inputs are present in ST2), and that in that situation (which I feel is the norm), the FX don't apply, do you agree the label for that channel level to mix not be more clear if it said "USB/ST2 to Mix" or "ST2/FX to Mix? @@michaelcasey2194
@michaelcasey2194 Жыл бұрын
@@jonathan_bass Sure, perhaps that would make more sense. Based on the verbiage in the manual it seems to me that an assumption was made that ST2 would normally be used as an FX return whether it be internal FX, software FX returned via USB, or an outboard processor connected to the 1/4" inputs. Of course, that's not always the case.

hey i really could use some help. I’m using pro tools ultimate and a zedi10 hybrid mixer. Everything works fine i can hear myself through headphones while recording but after i record and go to play back my audio i can’t hear the playback through my headphones. i’m guessing it’s my I/o settings. any help would be greatly appreciated
@michaelcasey2194 Жыл бұрын
There are four playback channels that are returned over USB. Channels 1-2 show up on the "ST2" or "FX" knob on the ZED mixer, and channels 3-4 show up on the "ST3" knob. If you're listening to the main mix in your headphones, you can dial these knobs into that mix. Or if you only want to listen to playback and nothing else, you can push the button with the headphone icon next to the ST2/FX or ST3 knob. It also might be worth a look in the I/O setup of Pro Tools - check that the ZEDi10FX is patched on the output tab.

Is Zedi8 are a Class Compilant device? If yes, could i stream the sound from the all inputs( m1, m2, st1, st2) into my iphone via usb - camera connection kit?
@michaelcasey2194 Жыл бұрын
Great question. Yes, the USB connection on ZEDi series mixers is Class Compliant and can be interfaced with an iOS device using the camera connection kit. Please note however that the ZEDi8 in particular has a 2x2 USB interface. Moving up to the ZEDi-10 or ZEDi-10FX will give you a 4x4 USB interface. On those models, the options for USB output are M1/M2/L/R, M1/M2/Aux/FX, or M1/M2/M3/M4. Also note that the app you use will need to be multitrack capable in order to to access all for channels. Off hand, I know that Garage Band is multitrack capable but there may be others.

So I was here trying to use USB the Zedi 10 to my Iphone to stream to twitch and all I get is channels 1&2 that are both panned hard left and right. Channels 3&4 get no sound. So I do some further investigation and see that the only way to get your main outputs into your phone is through channels 3&4....but of course there is no way to select 3&4 through the Iphone or the twitch app. This is a real missed opportunity here. This would be an easy solution for live streamers if only the main outputs were on 1&2. It would be a one stop shop and you would sell tons of these for this specific reason alone.

Great video, I'm considering getting one. So the way you had it hooked up like that...if you were running that into your DAW and recording it would record it as four seperate tracks? Would your EQ settings on the mixer translate into your DAW? Thank you!
@michaelcasey2194 Жыл бұрын
Great question. The ZEDi10FX sends four channels over USB, and there are a few options of which sources to send. One option is to send each of the first four mixer channels individually on four separate tracks as you mentioned. In this case they would all be pre-EQ which means the record feed would not be affected by the EQ on the mixer, however the lo-cut switch WILL have an effect on your recording if it is engaged. If you'd like, you can reconfigure the USB channels to send M1 and M2 individually on USB tracks 1 and 2 while sending your Main LR mix to USB tracks 3 and 4. With this option channels 1 and 2 are sent pre-EQ again, but the Main Mix on tracks 3 and 4 will be affected by your EQ and mix levels on the mixer. The third option would be to send channels 1 and 2 individually, and send the Aux and FX outputs on USB 3 and 4 respectively. These options are selected using a couple small buttons in the center of the mixer. In any case it will always be sending four individual tracks to USB, you just have some choices as to what those four sources are.

@@scourneene I haven't used either of the Zoom devices so I can't speak for them, but I know the ZEDi10FX would work quite well for live streaming. You can plug the two condensers into channels 1 and 2, and then you'll still have plenty of channels left if you ever need to connect an electric instrument or voiceover mic, etc.
