I love this scale of RC aircraft. I could watch all day. When I was young, my dad and I did several smaller airplanes and only two that were larger. They were all control line or fly by wire. Couldn't afford the larger RC of that day. We still had lots of fun with them! We also built pretty large kites.

I purchased the X20RS transmitter and the IRange IRX4 Lite, hoping to be able to use it with my Futaba S-FHSS receivers. I have not been able to make this work, though not for lack of trying. After a rather steep learning curve I successfully installed the .lua file and got the transmitter to show the Multiprotocol module on Ethos. I've not been successful however, in getting any receiver to bind with this transmitter, other than their proprietary Tandem receivers. Am I missing something? The external module light does not flash or otherwise shows signs of life....I am stumped.
@TheTravelingTechGuyАй бұрын
I have gotten a couple of reports from folks that are having issues between the X20RS and the IRX4 Lite. It may be a temporary compatibility issue? I'll reach out to FrSky and see if they have any info on this issue and report back in a video. Thanks for the question and for watching!!!

Its more a game / plane manufacturers promotional gimmick than an actual sim the aircraft are so unrealistic they all seem to require a lot of tuning Plus the visibility is much worse than reality the second the aircraft is near say take off its so tiny and pixelated Pheonix 5.5 and 6 on the other hand are miles ahead on all counts

Great video. When you mentioned the airframe sizes "40" and "60", what measurements of the model airplane are these based on?
@TheTravelingTechGuyАй бұрын
The numbers are based on what power size the aircraft requires. "40" would need at least a .40 2-stroke engine. and a "60", would need a .60 2-stroke engine. When looking at models on say, Horizon Hobby, you'll see a listing for the engine size requirement of a .46 - .53 2-stroke, that would be considered a "40" size. The same would be for a "60" size. It would require at least a .60 2-stroke engine to power that particular airframe. Hope that helps! Thanks for the kind words and for watching!!!

Just a heads up; the module will not work with the Frsky X20RS. I had it installed in my X20, and it worked great. I received my new X20RS and updated everything on the ethos suite. The irange module lights flash as though it's operating, however; the menu doesn't show the multi module, and it doesn't bind with any of my spektrum type modules. Others have reported this same issue. There's a folder that has "scripts" in it, and that folder doesn't show up on explorer when trying to get the irange module to install on the X20RS. I reinstalled it in my X20, and all is good. Have you heard of this problem? Thanks, John Wells from KC.

Why would you use worse receivers connected via a "compatible" protocol and no duplex? Replace your receivers with FrSky Archer gyro stabilized ones and forget this thing. Also it's double useless on the X20 because ethso doesn't and will never have forward programming for Spektrum. Get an EdgeTX radio if you want that without paying for a Spektrum TX. Or just get a Spektrum TX if you have all Spektrum receivers.
@TheTravelingTechGuy2 ай бұрын
I used the Tactic 6-channel receiver because I wanted to see if it would bind to an old receiver. It did without any hesitation. The Tactic 6-channel receiver was a good receiver. I flew with them for about 10 years and never had any issues with them. I have been using for the past few years, a FlySky FS-i10 and compatible receivers. Just recently, I have purchased an X20s and some Tandem 10-channel receivers. I'm not interested in flying with a gyro capable receiver at this time. If I find a need for it, I'll buy one. This is like the old Ford Vs. Chevy debate. Everyone has their preferences. If you want/need forward programming capabilities, then you should be using Spektrum or EdgeTX. Doesn't make any other brand less capable. Again, preferences. Thanks for your comment and for watching!!!
@slimjam442 ай бұрын
I use it in my X20 because for the meantime, I'm heavily invested in other brands of spectrum type receivers, and I wanted to learn ethos now, not in the distance future as your suggestion would result. Duh...

Sorry, I'm not sponsored by anyone. The gear and steps I recommend for beginners, are the same steps I would take if I was starting all over from scratch. Matter of fact, I did use the same steps when I got back into the hobby 18+ years ago. Phoenix is a good sim but, they are out of business. RF is the one that helped me practice in the beginning and since most of the models in the sim are out on the market today, you can, "Try before you buy" a particular model. I prefer using the included DX Interlink controller with my RF sim. The reason, I can plug it into my computer at any time and practice for as long as I want without having to stop and recharge my transmitter. If any manufacturer would like to sponsor a video or two or the channel, shoot me an email. :) Thanks for the comment and for watching!!!

@UltraMagaFan25 ай бұрын
@@TheTravelingTechGuy You definitely wouldn’t have to worry about the thing flying off. The boat would be very heavy. The engine alone weighs 20 pounds. Then you have the hull, which I would build out of aluminum, which is at least another 10 pounds. Then you have your batteries, servos, receivers, fuel tank, motor mount, and various other things that add even more weight to it. The only thing I’d be worried about is the boat being too back heavy. You risk the chance of capsizing it and it wouldn’t get on plane. But that can easily be solved by putting the fuel tank and some lead weights in the front of it to balance it out.

Any advice on removing old monokote cove. Bought any old plane from someone. It has been in a garage in the hot Louisiana heat for years. The clear coating was falling off the monokote. Used a heat gun. Removed a lot of it. Went over it with packing tape heat. Removed a little more. Now I'm left with the orange cover adhesive in spots. If I use acetone it just smears. I'm going to cover it in the same color. Do I need to remove the rest. If so, any suggestions? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

If it's the same color, you don't have to remove all of it. To help the new covering stick because of old covering left, you can use Cover Grip covering adhesive. Here's a link to it if you would like to check it out: alnk.to/2jMkqWR Thanks for the question and for watching!!!
