@MurrayLivingston23 күн бұрын
Couldn't disagree more, personally... I have travelled internationally several times with this tripod with no problems and hiked hundreds of kilometres with it (see numerous films on this channel). With tripods, you get what you pay for in my opinion. I have tried cheaper tripods and the reality is that these more expensive ones are simply better. More robust, better build, more stable, last longer. I also note in the video that this is not the top end of the market. Many tripods are more than 2x more expensive. I appreciate this may not be your view point but thought I would explain mine :) thanks for watching and commenting anyway!

Great video sharing. I am having an issue with a UV magnetic filter, too. The magnetic is not that strong. I will highlight this issue to K&F. What I did was, screw the UV lens onto a step-down ring first, then attach the magnetic CPL or ND 1000 filters on top of the UV filter. This is the only way it holds firmly. I am not sure whether UV filter can overlap by another filter quality.
@MurrayLivingstonАй бұрын
thanks for watching! I'm not sure why the UV magnets are so weak... I've also let K&F know. I just don't use them (but mainly because I find they don't actually protect the lens anyway!).

Very helpful video. I wanted to ask, what kind of step up rings do you use? K&F says they don't suggest using step up rings with their magnetic filters cause it might be some issues.

Thanks Marinos. I use what they call a "Magnetic Adapter Ring" (82mm - 77mm) - it's under Lens Filters > Magnetic Lens Filters > Accessories. Haven't had any issues so not sure why they say that!

great review, I have the sirui M2204 (the older one, which was kitted with this K-30x ball head), its great, but the plate isn't Arca-Swiss, its a proprietary one called a TY plate, a dovetail yes, But NOT an Arca one!
@MurrayLivingston3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching Andy! Argh that sounds frustrating - bet you can't find an L-bracket for that... would do my head in haha. I didn't realise the sirui K30x was a different dovetail as that's the other good option in this price range, although I'm not a fan of the rubberised grips as I mentioned in this review. Makes it a non-starter imo. Cheers, M.

@@MurrayLivingston they have updated, from research these where a 2004? till 2014 production run, they have new K30's out now, castellated knobs, not rubber anymore, so no slips, and I believe arca compatible QR plate systems, so most of the Caveats of the old head are gone now, but I still love the older M2204 as it had a monopod conversion included with it, and as far as L brackets, I just used the notch in the ball head, or the tripod foot in long lenses, fyi I also mount that head on a manfrotto 058 and put my sinar F2 4x5" monorail on it, and it holds that (base rail with a short macro rail attached, and a 90mm lens); and my Hasselblad H1 with HC300 on it with Hassy's own qr system; easy, so no qualms about heavy loads with this head, just keep an Allen key handy, as the rubber pads on the TY camera plate need a good snug so they don't turn loose, and before going out, set the tension knob right, so no drooping when the load is on.

@MurrayLivingston3 ай бұрын
The clamp will go into two different cut outs for vertical comps no problem, but I would highly recommend an L-bracket either way. I use a small rig one on my R5 and love it. Not only will it be more stable but it's faster to change comps and you don't shift your perspective when going from vertical to horizontal. Just my 2c! @MurrayLivingston3 ай бұрын
Glad to hear they are working out for you. Yes I agree, the sets they are sold on could be improved! Not too many people making colour filters anymore it seems - best to go with tried and true Hoyas or something to that effect. Cokin make a few cheaper ones but they are big square filters if I recall correctly. Definitely can't compare to a magnetic set up - there's no going back!

@@MurrayLivingston thanks for telling me that because I was thinking of purchasing the smaller N36 since it’s rated for I think 44 pounds. What’s the reasoning for purchasing the N44 since my set up doesn’t weigh 44 pounds?
@MurrayLivingston4 ай бұрын
@@surreallife777 the weight ratings are usually a best case scenario. As soon as you point the camera down or lean the weight of the lens off-centre, your camera will exert a lot more force on the ball head. It's not an exact science unfortunately. I use a similar weight kit when I have my 100-500 attached to the R5 and wouldn't want the smaller version personally

Great to hear these are working for you. I've debated magnetic filters many times now, but, cost always has me gun shy. That said, maybe when K&F brings their v2 around I'll be ready to drop some proper money into a magnetic set.

Concerning the stacking and vignetting problem. It's very easy to remove the little bit of vignetting in f.ex. lightroom. But I only have one weekends experience with this filter system, so there is that. I could go up a filter size but then I wont be able to use the sun screen. And I often need that.

Just a quick disclaimer! K&F/Kentfaith did not sponsor this video, had no say in the content, and did not see a draft before public release. These are my honest thoughts after 6 months of use! Drop any questions down here and I'll make sure to try and answer :) Cheers, Murray Edit: I just got my hands on the Canon RF14-35 which is a 77mm thread. I'm using 82mm filters and there is no vignetting with one filter, but with two there is just a smidge only right at 14mm. Zooming in to 14.5/15mm it goes away. Pretty much exactly the performance I was expecting as the lens is known to have heaps of distortion so it was kind of to be expected. I will rarely be stacking filters at 14mm so its pretty much a non-issue for me, and it can always be cropped or cloned out in post! My friend uses 82mm filters on a Nikkor 14-30 and has identical performance.

Great video. For multi-day hikes, can you pack your tent and sleeping bag in the Action x70, or do you carry them separately?
@MurrayLivingston8 ай бұрын
Thanks! I've since changed to a different bag (Durston Kakwa 55), but 70L definitely had enough space for my tent and sleeping bag inside - in fact as I got lighter and smaller gear it was probably too big. Obviously depends on what gear you have as some is more bulky than others. I try to put everything on the inside of the bag for multi-day hikes so it can be in dry bags or a bag liner, except for rain gear/tripod so that its easily accessible. Hope that helps :)

Hi Murray. Thanks for posting this excellent review of these filters. I have already purchased them myself and was really interested to hear about using them, especially under poor weather conditions. In your conclusion, you mentioned a few things I wanted to comment about. I have the same issue with the UV filters. I have the 77mm set. I am using 62 to 77 mm and 72 to 77mm step-up rings for my lenses. I bought two of the UV filters with the intention of leaving one attached to each lens. However, when I attach a magnetic UV filter to either of these rings, it falls off. I don't think the UV filter is as strong a magnet as the others. I found two solutions. The first is to attach the UV filter after attaching another filter or filters first. It seems to stick much better to another magnetic filter rather than the step-up ring. There other solution is to attach a standard screw-on UV filter to the lens first, then attach the step-up ring. Obviously, you would have to check if you get vignetting with this solution. Regarding identifying the filters in the case, I plan to use a fine-tipped permanent pen to label the dividers to make life easier! Thanks again for this great review. Cheers!
@Travelagent9 ай бұрын
I am not sure if I am getting your problem right, but: The UV-Filter should always be the first one to be screwed on(!) the lens. The UV-Filter is as magnetic as as the provided magnetic ring and can be uses as such, but - only on the "upper" side! As it isn`t magnetic on the "other" side, it can not be attached on any ot the other magnetic filters!
@MurrayLivingston9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and the detailed comment John! I passed on my comments to kentfaith about the UV magnets, so it's interesting to hear others have had a similar issue.
