Soft pastels had a similar effect on me! There is something about them... I remember this snowscape lesson. So beautiful...as are you, Susan!❤

what a helpful video Susan and what a great idea to create your own paper surfaces for pastel painting. After my failed attempt at alcohol underpainting on a black cardboard prepared with chalk gesso, I ordered the Liquitex clear gesso and prepared a Canson XL spiral notebook accordingly. I am very excited to see how it works after it dries. This opens up completely new possibilities for plein air painting. Thank you for sharing your product reviews and tricks and tips so generously🙏🫶

I am new to pastels in my 70's. I had not even considered them until I saw a portrait in an art museum in Ottawa. I have no idea about underpainting or alcohol so this was a great eye opener for me.Have you done a you tube tutorial on what kind of paper to use? does it vary if you want to use alcohol?

You know, pastels might not look perfect when you're a beginner, but thanks to tutorials like yours setting me up for success, my partner already ooooohs and aaaahs at every painting I do in pastels! Thanks to the ability to layer, I feel like pastels are a lot more forgiving for beginners than something finicky like watercolor (though watercolor is more accessible financially).

@monetcafe there's nothing like a little "sweet and sour" before lunch, to give you the right amount of humor and a smile that can be seen, while walking through the countryside and villages of Italy; making me feel of an importance; (personage) ;)

I inherited an incredible set of Holbein oil pastels. I love your lessons. Is it possible to use oil pastels with your lessons?
@monetcafe6 күн бұрын
Yes, you could use oil pastels, but keep in mind they won’t layer and quite the same way. I always say use what you have and have fun!
