I know this is 6months old but it is giving me good info as I just picked up some soft pastels.

I'm not educated in the oil pastel medium, or any pastel for that matter... My question how do you protect it? Varnish? A stick to keep unwanted hands and fingers away? Other? Love it, by the way!
@monetcafe3 күн бұрын
Hi @Dellasus2011, I never spray a fixative on a soft pastel painting since it always darkens the final image. To protect my final painting for shipping or storing, I place them in a clear plastic bag I get from www.clearbags.com/bags/flat/flap-tape/crystal-clear. I buy the bags a bit larger than standard sizes so I will have room for the painting and a piece of foamcore board cut to the size of the painting. Here is a video of my process:kzbin.info/www/bejne/aomnZYabr6useMk&t=209s

This is truly lovely. Thanks for sharing. Hummingbirds are indeed, precious little creatures. I'm still protecting my morning glories and Angel Trumpet vines from frost here in Virginia and keeping their feeders full for them as they migrate. I've had some really beautiful interactions with hummingbirds over the years. I know God did that for me.

How exciting Mark! I hope you love trying this technique. I found that working with the alcohol and the toothbrush took a little finesse. Maybe practice a bit on a separate piece of paper before making your stars on a serious piece. That’s what I did. Have fun!
@markgallagher3258 күн бұрын
I've done the stars with a toothbrush before with acrylic paint and water. That worked pretty well, od think it should be similar

Dear Susan,today i discoverd a big canvas aqrylic painting, from Years ago, that i dont like, how it looks,but now i will try with pastels to go over..... This is such a great vision, to go with all the painings, when we dont like it, the watercolors also, instead of trowing away!!!😊❤️👍🍀 Double money saving😅🎉

Are they oil based being wax? Are they compatible with oil and acrylic paintings?
@monetcafe3 күн бұрын
🙂 🙂 🙂 ❤, @MissCMP1964 No. Oil pastels are not water solubleble. and wax pastels are. Hope this helps.
