Wow! That was impressive. You did it without any blending too. This was so inspiring!

Thanks for showing that paper can be reused and the dry brushing to remove old pastel. Also liked that you put the reference image up for quite a while. That was helpful. Thanks.

That was soooo helpful. I’m working on a field scene with lots of flowers! After watching this video I know I will be able to use most if not all of your techniques!! THANKS

Your explanation regarding layering makes sense to me but what I find challenging is not the tone but which color in that tone to use as layers. I haven’t yet broken out a few new small sets of pastels and two pads of mi-teines canson paper pads but which video should I start with? Work small at first? I’d join patreon …. lost job in January. No income so I’ll have to use what I can get my hands on and I am gravitating towards your videos as compared to others as you taught yourself, you’re a kind-hearted instructor and your artwork makes me feel good and happy, I need that big time… my sister died a few days ago and I want to keep my mind busy with creating art.

I am so so so sorry to hear about your sister. That must be so heartbreaking. I have just one sister and I can’t imagine the grief. I pray that you can use Art to bring you some healing. May God be with you sweetheart, and hold you through this.

Hullo Susan, I do truly enjoy your videos. Thank you for continuing to produce quality information geared towards beginners. I have been working with soft pastels for just a few years now and it is still a very challenging medium to me. I started out with watercolors and I’ve stuck to them for years and it is quite a different medium from soft pastels. I really enjoy seeing you reuse your paintings for improvement and frugality. I have created some of my own pastel surfaces with print making papers clear gesso and pumice! And yes I have purchased Uart sandpaper as well. Thank you again for another wonderful video and I look forward to more in the future. Please take care and have a lovely day!

It can indeed be hard to come from watercolor to pastel. Watercolor preserves the light but with pastel you can work dark to light. Hang in there see. You can do it!

I just had to press pause to tell you what I'm thinking! In that I love pastels and have experience using them, I can say that you are a fabulous instructor. You have really analyzed what and how you learned and grew as an artist, which is valuable for me to know. Even though I learned pastel by exactly duplicating Monet and Degas in art classes, I didn't fully understand their impressionist techniques afterward. And I only was able to implement some of what I learned. Listening and watching you has taught me so much! Thank you! Now I'm going to finish watching the rest. ❤

Thank you for this, I just started using pastels cuz i liked the colors, but things weren't looking quite right. I see now i wasn't making a paper foundation for my colors and was smudging them too much.

I use the Spectrafix concentrate and mix it with everclear to spray my paintings. I put it in a mist bottle and it creates a bit of texture to paint on. It is non toxic.

You are right..! The complexities in art can be hard to understand, just as much as it can be hard to explain. Myself, I'm always searching for a motive behind the artist, or writer if I might include. A motif, is th driving force of the artists work to give coherency to the viewers by way of light and dark. Layering can be used as a differential in solving for x… This technique is the main element used to display how the artist feels; the emotion expressed silently through the eyes of an artist.
