Blessing my soul right now. So needed for our continued journey in this country. I am from Philadelphia and I am acquainted with the Aeolians through our past choir director, Allen W. Foster. I just happened upon it today, although I don't believe in "just happenings!"

R. LOWRY (Composer) remains one of the greatest Baptist preachers and composers of all time. The inspiration behind this GREAT hymn reveals how Lowry envisioned heaven as depicted by Saint John in Revelation 22. It is a very popular hymn still sang across many Baptist Churches, and Schools in West Africa, North America and many other places... I learned this song over four decades ago (from the SS&S hymnal of Ira D. SANKEY), and I remember that we sang it perhaps every other week at the Baptist Mission College I attended back in the Cameroon's. It was one of those hymns that brought unexplainable joy and hope (for the future) to our hearts as young adolescents... Something else I remember quite vividly is that this hymn provided me with the clearest and simplest description of how heaven would look.

Sublime. Celestial. Jubilant. Expressive. Even has the black "stank" aka soul that black aggregation of singers automatically add to music. Bravo! Brava!!

Oh, for a faith that will not shrink, Though pressed by every foe, That will not tremble on the brink Of any earthly woe! That will not murmur nor complain Beneath the chast’ning rod, But, in the hour of grief or pain, Will lean upon its God. A faith that shines more bright and clear When tempests rage without; That when in danger knows no fear, In darkness feels no doubt. Lord, give me such a faith as this, And then, whate’er may come, I’ll taste, e’en here, the hallowed bliss Of an eternal home.
