It's in perfect contrast with the Barksdale crew, who ran their operation from the towers and inside strip clubs. Marlo's organization steadily monopolized the street corners right under Avon's nose, and it wasn't until the towers came down that he realized how oblivious and detached the secured, indoor comforts of the towers made him. Marlo's entire outfit was outside most of the time, being hardened by the natural elements and exposure, as opposed to the gradual domestication that had taken place with the Barksdale unit.
