Yes - the lack of a "love interest" IS refreshing. I like how the show gets on with solving the crime, applying the processes, delegating duties and fact-finding, to find the perpetrator. And the no-nonsense approach by Vera in the interview room, layering in the facts, evidence, witness statements, etc. to show the suspect, no way out. The show gets on with it because that's the character, Vera.

Just listened to the spectacular Never Not Going To and this pops up. Horse has an amazing voice and her contribution to music is immense. Sweet Thing should have been a massive hit and other songs deserved to be much more successful. As a force for good musically and in every other respect, such as LGBTQIA advocate and icon, she represents the very best of what it means to be a fully rounded person.

How wonderful all the Vera series have been, Brenda Blethyn is perfect though maybe too pretty for the book character. Wanted to switch it off several thousand times as I couldn't stand how vile Delia is. Victim or not, autistic or not, the character, which she did play well, was far too unlikable to care for. Sorry, but it sucked.

The story line is quite disturbing. Both actors play their roles convincingly. Shaun Evans is a brilliant artist, and this is the first time I’ve seen Anna Maxwell, who is absolutely amazing in her role. American actors for the most part are a joke compared to the level in skill of these two actors.
