No one in my mind could play the Role of Vera like Brenda, she has made the role hers and it’s just wonderful, sad, funny, good policing what more could you want. Like others we have watched the original the repeats more than once and still love and enjoy it. Ann Cleeves deserves all the praise for developing Vera, a most unusual female police detective, clever and captivating. Brenda Blethyn is Perfect as Vera. I have been reading the books since the first one appeared in American bookstores and I watch all the videos, many times. Why. Because nothing compares. And every one of the cast are terrific. I am the same age as Brenda, 78. I want to thank Brenda for all the wonderful episodes. I wish they could continue, please continue. I have not read the newest book, but it sits on my desk, waiting for a snowy day in January. What is better on a snowy or rainy day but a great book, an iconic detective, and a cuppa tea. Brenda, I thank you!! One more thing: One of my favorite episodes was when Vera’ s heart was exposed as she gave the old greyhound dog to the young boy.

I was very surprised when Brenda said she was 78 years old, I was watching the interview and thinking how good she looks but thought she was 10 years younger. I love the series and watch all the repeats. Brenda Blethyn is one of our great actors,I remember her in Little voice playing the complete opposite of Vera.

The reason I love this show is because it seems like real life characters. I also like that it’s about the story not the characters falling in and out of love it’s all about the crimes. Brenda is a wonderful actress and I’m so glad that another season is coming

Love Brenda Blethyn, a great actress....love the character of Vera, the tough but caring, the slooth who never expects her workers to do what she wouldnt but demands loyalty as she gives them.... a well written character, well played by the actor....that is why a series runs so long. I love the clothes, its more realistic, a person so fixated on her job, is not the type to have long nails and perfect make-up, like all the rediculous American shows...wearing high heels if you might have to fight a bad guy. ... a joke. I could watch reruns forever, and do!

Can't believe I couldn't stand Vera when i first watched it. My husband used to watch it it and I remember saying - oh no who is this woman! lol Couldn't stand the sound of her voice but then suddenly I just fell in love with her. Yes!!!! 100% my exact same experience!!! Everyone I know is in love with this series, and with Brenda, Kenny, Joe, etc. There is never a bad performance from anyone…whether they’re regulars, or only appear a couple times, etc. Even her trusty vehicle is a character in the show (albeit non-human) and I’m sure everyone loves seeing her drive it all over the region. I hope she doesn’t get rid of it for a newer version!!!

The writing in this series was amazing, you can watch them over and over again (like you can the Poirot Series) and not get fed up. I really really liked her since I saw her inA river runs throu with brad pitt. She lightens up everyone with hre great smile. Pride and prejudice was delightful...and Vera is just great! So grateful for the wonderful streaming service, BritBox (I had stopped wasting a ton of money every month on regular TV here in the U.S., and made the switch to streaming TV). When series 13 came out I did a marathon rewatch of seasons 1 thru 12 and then plunged into season 13, and watched it a few times as well. Can’t wait to binge-watch season 14!!!

I have loved this prog since day one. I reckon I have not seen all of them so I need to sit in and watch all of them at some stage..over fews weeks. I loved the day in the prog when she bought another coat in a charity shop. When her sidekick said it was identical to the last one, she was very happy with her choice. She is cranky, and that's funny...also love that she drives a jeep and won't let Joe drive it. Aw, I will really really miss it..the cast and Vera. I also loved that each episode was long. Watched vera early hours outside uni of kent as flat below me residents smoking crack so i walked to university campus as they had security up there being female out early hours and sat outside the library watching vera used their WiFi. Was good writing and the back drop for where filmed stunning the sand dunes in Northumberland are beautiful ❤️
