I hate that this happened, I always get so upset when it's situations where people are going out for some fun and it ends up crippling them or killing them it's just so tragic. Everyone keeps commenting how safe the ride is now, believe them, they are telling the truth and in fact because of this happening the entire industry has been doing more safety precautions on everything (which happens every single time there's an accident) so even though this event was terrible, it helped health and safety regulations improve drastically

It was an human error there was a ghost carridge out and the park employee didnt see that it was out but the computer was saying it was out there so the employee didnt know it was there and manually overrided the next carriage to go without knowing there was a ghost/test carrige out so thats why it said there was only 16 people

It wasn't the fault of the operators, the ride was operating above maximum wind speeds and broke down. While engineers were fixing, they added a fifth train because of the number of people in the park. One the ride was restarted, the operators were not informed by the engineers of the fifth train. The fifth train had been sent round the track as a test run but failed to complete the 4th inversion due to a lack of weight on the train. As the operators were not informed of this 5th train, when the train carrying people stopped at the top of the first lift hill, they checked the position of the four trains that they knew of and overrode the stopping which led to the collision. This accident was caused by a breakdown in communication, not by the ride operator who was already pressured to get the ride reopened because of the number of people in the park.

Its still going today! I went there 2 days ago and people still go on! When i went there the oblivion got stuck with people on it! It wasn't a crash but still, it really puts the 'ride at your own risk' thing in perspective..

They were sued for ignoring lots of health an safety protocol it cost them 5million GBP and the drop in revenue Couple years later they build a new ride to attract everyone again and it was to be really safe and you know what they did,yep built a wooden roller coaster with fire effects (the wickerman), yes great idea to show that you've learnt from previous mistakes

imagine sitting on the side knowing what's about to happen and being in such horror screaming at the operator to stop but the moment you see it move from the top of that lift hill you know its game over and just look away 20-30 seconds later you hear a crash and screams you turn back around to realise many people are unconscious wishing you could help you rush to the station but there's nothing you can do the moment the humanised car moved there was no going back Must of been scary

Sooo lucky noone was killed I actually rode this ride for the first time on Tuesday and its by far the safest feeling coaster there too.. glides 👌 unlike wickerman haha

im a smiler survivor, i was riding it with my friend and he got off and i took another go with priorty queue, on the second run the cart got stuck upside down and one of the back track wheels slipped and the back carriage came off and i was in the second to last carriage, now i have a scar over my chest and leg because of the injury :(

They knew it was broke and rushed the mechanic because the smiler was there biggest attraction so ultimately the mechanic didnt do the job properly and the ride automatically sent a empty car around but it failed to go up one of the loops and was sat on the track - apparently no one knew the car was sent off so they sent a car with 16 passengers around wich led to the crash

4 trains? That's too many trains for a coaster that size. Even the big one in Blackpool pleasure Beach doesn't use 4 trains and it's bigger. And they never send a train out until the first one has returned into the brake blocks out side the station

The Big One isn't even that much bigger but it has less block sections than the Smiler so 4 trains is completely justified.

It’s absolutely ridiculous, that place needs to be shut down. I have never visited there ever and I never will 😂 they have had way to many accidents there so why would I put my life at risk over there stupidity. Those pour people got hurt and some may have lost there legs due to this :( it’s just awful 😢 the fact that it had problems already before this one happened and they still thought it was going to be fine just baffles me. The place needs to be shut down it’s not safe at all.
